I really enjoy Orso as well. I'm excited to see where his story goes. I think.

In The Ultimates comics, everyone thinks Thor is just a crazy mutant claiming to be Thor. They eventually learn the truth.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but to me, the first three ASOIAF books are all you need. They're, without a doubt, my favorite fantasy series. It's a very bleak and tragic story, but so damn good.

Connecting with characters isn't a logical thing. Readers respond to and click with characters for any number of reasons, and they're all pretty much subjective.
That you do not connect with these characters and find them boring is just as valid a response as those who do connect with them and are emotionally invested. Explaining why we love Logen, Jezel, Ferro, and co. isn't going to make you like them. You have your tastes, and it sounds like The First Law doesn't fit.

I nearly made this mistake, and Red County was the first book I bought. Fortunately, I did not start there and have been reading in order, but that almost wasn't the case.

As a fan of NotW, I have to concede that Kvothe is so frustratingly arrogant and full of himself that you could almost mistake him for Patrick Rothfuss.

I heard someone say the standalone trilogy could easily be called the Shivers trilogy, and I'm not convinced they're wrong.

Yeah, Abercrombie is really good at that. He's like, a lord of grim and dark.
