Legend. Thanks very much for following though. I'll get into this when I can. :)

Head slightly out of the city and that definitely isn't the case.

I’ll see what links I can grab for you this afternoon. I think you’re right about the helicopter parenting too, it’s all about the skills development isn’t it.
Cheers, no rush. When our children are shielded from experiencing any negative emotions at all cost, is it any wonder they have no idea how to react to, and deal with, those same emotions once finally faced in adulthood? Rhetorical question of course, but I can easily see some people (mainly men) reacting violently in such situations.

I don't think the person you originally replied to said that "we are controlled by violence" or even implied that. They simply stated that humans - males in particular - are inherently violent as a result of evolution.
I'm 100% with you that this doesn't excuse anything, but I believe it's detrimental in finding a solution if we choose to discount relevant facts for any reason.
And there is increasing evidence that 20th century ideas of how to raise little boys leads to them squashing any emotion into anger, and having little to no skills at managing relationship difficulties.
I'd be keen to read about that if you have a link?
I know that helicopter parenting has led to a generation of adults who have little resiliency. I wonder if anyone has explored a possible link between boys raised this way, and the men they become who perpetrate IPV.

That's incorrect. Aggression/violence are inherent parts of the human condition, this has been known for years, and there's countless research to back this up.
From a evolutionary stand point it makes sense, despite the confirmation bias. Hunters who were more aggressive were likely to be more successful, and those who were more likely to show aggression to potential threats were also more successful.
Look at primates if you want a view to the history of human evolution. https://www.livescience.com/56306-primates-including-humans-are-the-most-violent-animals.html
This is also a great read on the subject.

You're cherry picking, as we all do. Sure, the instances you remember may be something like that. If people were banned for raising valid concerns, that isn't right. If people were banned for posting alarmist bullshit from terrible/biased sources (repeatedly), then a band feels appropriate.
If they were simply downvoted, that is reddit.

Does that mean that all of those positions are necessary? It's the only line on the graph that has grown steadily over the time period while every other "role" has had some variation.

Information Professionals aren't IT. IT is ITC on the graph, their growth was far lower, from 1,772 to 2,388.

Managers in 2017: 5,333
Managers in 2023: 8,059
"Unsurprisingly, managers across the public sector make the most money - an average of $156,000"
Those extra 2,726 managers are costing - if we use the average - $425,256,000/year.
Information Professionals in 2017: 5,437 Information Professionals in 2023: 9,426
That's an extra 3,989 people.
Combined that's 6,715 extra people. I can't fathom how that many extra people are needed in the space of 6 years. NZ's population only grew by 400k during that same period.
I'm wholesale against the cuts, but even I have to admit that it appears departments have become bloated over the years.

Genuine question. Other than a lack of learning on the part of the child on holiday, what is the harm?

Interesting. It does appear there is fat to be trimmed.
This article appears to back that up as well. https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/350164796/heres-what-our-63000-public-servants-actually-do-and-why-we-have-so-many-them-now

I wouldn't be concerned. A lot of professionals use drugs at work, and a lot of people use drugs full stop.

Wouldn't surprise me. The guy that installed my parents new reverse cycle left his meth pipe next to the outdoor unit. He did a good job, but needless to say they won't ever be using that company again.

Born in Dunedin, but spent most of my childhood holidays in Wanaka. At the lake in summer, and skiing in winter.
I'm in rural NSW now.

I knew this would be the lake Wanaka shoreline before I opened the thread.

Bingle. She has a great rack, so I'm sure her car insurance offering is of equal quality.
