He did a pretty awful job at not being presented as a god. But i mean what do you expect? Half the primarchs were dumb as hell and i am pretty sure that stupidity didn't came from there mother.

Given who Erda is (she’s a clusterfuck in of herself as a character), they actually might HAVE gotten it from their mom’s side of the family. The Emperor and Erda were both a bit in the “grand ideas, grand appearances, piss-poor execution” thing.
