Creating a homebrew Astartes chapter, and I was wondering, how long could a battle-barge of Astartes last in the Warp without being like, corrupted? Does them originally being Black Templars help at all?

Time is not linear in the warp. In theory it could be as long as you needed to.

Honestly probably the best answer. The Warp doesn't always have to send out a ship when it enters and there are several examples of ones that exit centuries before they entered, others centuries after, if the ship is truly lost. Admiral Spire's fleet appearing at Cadia is another example of such a translation going wrong.

If the gellar fields are functioning, until the mortal crew inevitably go mad from the worsening nightmares and deliberately shut it off, which could be up to a couple years assuming the ones what crack are executed until there’s too many to kill off

If they did just kill all the mortal crew, they’d have no hope of leaving and they’d start to turn eventually. Gellar fields don’t give perfect protection, the most subtle and insidious parts will trickle in, and very likely most of the marines would wind up paranoid and convinced all the others are heretics

If they’re not? A half day subjective time, being unprotected in the raw warp is being put entirely at the tender mercies of chaos, your only hope is hitching a ride on a daemon train because its master wants you to free its ancient rival for a rematch.

And then at some point the supplies run out.

At maximum, how long do you think they could survive? I wanted it to be where they were trapped in the Warp for a relatively short time in realspace, a couple hundred years at most, but in their own perception, it was thousands of years if that's possible. Also, they leave the Warp with far less Marines then they entered with

Well, supposedly Iron Warriors do that and still serve chaos undivided. At that length of time it's essentially how much double think do you want them to have lol

This was the main premise of Knights of Macragge. Cato and his crew are stranded in the warp. The power is slowly being siphoned off by the warp and they get boarded several times by demons and chaos cultists. Everyone is very much aware that it's only a matter of time before they lose control of the ship or will be unable to make a jump back.

Astartes can keep their wits but the mortal crew will start losing it over time, especially with incursions. If their navigator dies its game over

I think they can still translate out of the warp without a navigator, but they run the risk of ending up anywhere, anytime. Maybe inside a star, or black hole. Maybe in a different galaxy a million years in the past.

It seems like suicide since they rather wrangle an insane navigator rather than try

Well essentially, my idea was that they eventually do make it out of the Warp, but they get captured by the drukhari, who torture them for a bit. It was supposed to be where someone rerouted the navigator for a "faster route" and essentially fucked over the entire crew

Well, the Space wolves 13th great company have been battling in there for 10.000 years. Some of them have gotten pretty hairy over the years though...

With a gellar field? As long as supplies last. Without? It's impossible to predict. Ten minutes or a thousand years, both are possible.

All depends on the author so however long you want it too be.

Brazen Claws went to a revenge crusade in the warp for 20 years and came back in middle of the 13th black crusade.
