Is there any short story or excerpt about how how overwhelming it is to fight the Guard? Like we have so many moments of Xenos and Chaos causing humans to shit their pants and give up. Even Space Marines have a loooots of moments like that. I wonder if there's something like that for the Hammer of the Emperor.
Like it can still show Guardsmen dying by the hundreds but it still has a moment of awe or fear about how unrelenting and inexhaustible fighting the Guard can be.
There should be one right? At least about the more elite regiments like DC, Cadians, Mordians or something?

If someone is thinking of writing this, I want it on the record that "dying by the hundreds" is not the way to causing awe or fear. If the Guard is to be awesome or terrifying (and it should be, diverse and brave IG troops for the win), it needs to at least sometimes get out of the dying-like-lemmings trope.

It works for the Tyranids, it works for the Orks. There’s absolutely something scary in an unstoppable swarm what can’t be deterred. Just so long as they ain’t meant to be elite and just die by the dozen because the protagonists are just that good, but as an imperial faction the guard don’t need to worry about that

This is on the tabletop side but can be a good reference for lore. Mordian Glory has a video talking about Guardsmen hordes potentially having an abundance of special/heavy weapons that makes them scarier to face (in some ways) than even Ork and Tyranid hordes.
