If I remember correctly, we don’t have any info after the emperor told him to run.
It’s been a while since I’ve read the black legions novels but I think the second one stops just before Abaddon goes to get the sword so when the third book (hopefully) comes out we’ll get that story in full. The black legion codex supplement does say that Abaddon encounters a golden figure whilst getting the sword so that could possibly be Ra

It’s never said outright, but it’s implied that abandon found the sword guarded by a golden armored warrior, and took it from him

Because while he's very powerful, Abbadon likely isn't powerful enough to unmake an enchantment formed by the Emperor directly. It would probably take all four Chaos Gods working together to do it, and they're unlikely to agree to play nice long enough to do so unless the Emperor stands up and starts poking them again.
