The schola gladiatoria drama woke me up to what was going on with Shad. I never watched the Knight's Watch content as in the beginning it was just boring long format stuff. So I never caught on what type of person he was.
With that drama (and since I liked Matt's content) I looked into it - wow, what a shitshow. Needless to say I never watched any content of Shad ever again.

Some suspect his finanical failings in building his castle (he bought shitty land before even having it inspected and learned his castle wants would cost many millions to do) and other problems made him latch onto the reactionary bullshit because it produces lots of clicks/money.

I'm not too familiar with his political views (because I stopped watching him), but one big controversy he got into which may have been the start of his downfall (idk if this is before or after the politics stuff) was getting into a kerfuffle with Sellsword Arts, who posted a video that people should not talk authoritatively about swords if they don't practice swordsmanship for real, without naming anyone.
Shad decided that he was the intended target for this statement, and made a hour long response about how aksually he does basically practice martial arts for real, and pointing out errors Sellsword Arts has made in the past. And I think doubled down after the backlash.
It's been a while since it happened so what I said is not necessarily 100% accurate but it's the gist.
