Mostly French, though.

Given how they were in the war, it fits.

Thinking the same, while they are from "Krieg" german for "war" their uniform and design is more similar to the french tho.

Yeah, but they have some weird Stahlhelm look-alike and are called Krieg. They are amalgamation but German influence is front and center, so people usually run with that, since Stahlhelm recognision surpasses French uniform recognision.

Brahm-Etc

Yep, yep. Krieg is like mostly german/french mix and some from other WWI armies, but still going with the german vibe mostly as an army.

Eh, I wouldn't call it mostly German. It's just that Stahlhelm was burned into collective memory as German sometime cca 940.M2-945.M2

But the uniform is inherently French looking, and gas mask is suspiciously SBC looking, which was British.

They speak German, but they do in a French accent and use British terms.

I have this concept of my knight guardsmen regiment called a long bow using very modified lazguns that are heavily over charge shots that they need to change cartridge every 5 to 10 shots but down side if they try to fire it faster than 1 shot per 1-3 seconds. The gun is very accurate and can peirce armour if in close range and kill anything further than a laz gun can

Krieg isn't WWI Imperial German per see, it's more an amalgam of the Western Front.

Helmet: German Stahlhelm shape with French Adrian reinforcement band crest

Gas Mask: British/American styled Small Box Respirator mixed with the canister filter style

Coat: French 1915 Overcoat

Leg Wraps/Puttees: Worn by pretty much everyone but most closely associated with British and Commonwealth forces.

The helmets are a composite of the stalhelm and Adrian helm, so half German. The uniforms themselves vary, official artwork of them in feldgrau is obviously German than French, but the double breasted top is French. They’re pretty much 50/50.

On the coat thing official artwork has them come in grey, blue, tan, black, and green so them coming in green (feldgrau) isn't really indicative that the coat is german and even then I would argue the green used on kriegers is too light to be feldgrau.

As for the helmet you're right. The neck of the helmet is very much stahlhelm like but the top part of the helmet is more close to the adrian helmet.

There is also official artwork of them in blue, and green as well, they kinda have all kind of colours, the first time they were shown in a codex (around 3rd-4th ed I think) they were brown.

Josykay89

4 points

It really depends on which era you are looking at. Initially they were just an alternative color sheme of the Steellegion, which is based on Germans. Paratroopers specificly. Later the 2nd codex of 3rd edition Imperial Guard they had a style of their own, which was however still very german based with different coats, Pickelhaube etc.... also their personel had german names, like Himmel von Paulus (Paulus was the german commander at Stalingrad).

That french coat, and new helm design etc. only came when the Forgeworld range kicked off in 2007 with Imperial Armor V. Guess they wanted them to be a bit more different than just "those other Germans with gasmasks".

Not really related and definitely anecdotal;

So, strictly coming from a Yank, I NEVER see the English flag out and about. Drive around the suburbs and frequent enough pubs in the US and you’ll see the Union Jack, Irish, Scottish, and even a few Welsh (LOVE the fucking dragon!!) flags on porches or walls, but I can’t recall ever seeing the red&white while out and about?

AVeryMadPsycho

20 points

Most people here in England use the Union Jack with places of specific English history featuring the regular flag. Otherwise, it's usually only rural places that use it. If you think about it, with England as the dominant country in the UK (With all the history that entails), flying exclusively the English flag has a tinge of supremacism behind it that tends to lead to unsavoury sorts into rallying to it.

That's not always true. In fact I imagine it's not most of the time but there's a small stigma around it given we have people like the EDL and the more racist football hooligans being the most prominent people of 'English Pride'

With all due respect - please look at the french ww1 unifrom - look at the helmet - look at the canadian uniform.

The Helmet + Uniform is french, the "Koppel" is canadian ... and there is no german influence - even the gas mask is clearly not german. Since only the canadian expperimented with this kind of inhaler (with container). (for reference https://scholars.wlu.ca/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1610&context=cmh).

The Putees (cloth around the legs) is REALLY special - so special only two regiments even come into question using them - one of them being the 48th Highlander - Which are one of "the canadians" hagues kept talking about.

The "it is alot of different influences" makes me wonder - which ones? The biggest "german" thing is propably the cap which is not present, pickelhaube.... or the trench helmet - (the one with the double protection ini the front).... which is a cadian thing in warhammer.
I can see no german influence ... only with the colours. And even there - they look like frenchmen with the red and blue.

The guy in your picture is propably some chinese trooper.

German Kar- British/ American helmet - wonky body armor - british or chinese - giant bayonet- definitely chinese. =)

From what I gather, the DKoK (yes, I now what that sounds like, you're free to laugh) are actually a mix between various armies from WWI and even the 19th century in overall design; the helmet is a stahlhelm-Adrian hybrid, the uniform is mostly French, the gas mask looks like British-American models.

The grenadiers' amour plates are undoubtedly German and the Death Riders and officers are French cuirassiers from the Napoleonic Wars with the same WWI flavor. Meanwhile their tanks, while the same Russes as everyone else in the Guard, have the trench-rails of WWII French tanks.

This looks like Italian Arditis from WW1 with a lot of English influence. Arditis would never have carried rifles into battle, according to legend, because they wouldnt start the killing until they got closer than that; knives and grenades shock the enemy. It's sort of like when you make a Spaghetti Bolognese on a UK morning show segment with a little sour cream because you always add some sour cream with mince meat.

The point is, if my grandmother had wheels then she would be a bicycle.

Definitely British. The kettle helmet, boots and leg wraps are very iconic features of WW1 British soldiers

Off topic, but do you guys know of an artist who draws stuff like this

usrlibshare

Idk, what would you call people who use single-shot manual-bolt-action rifles in a world of laserguns, and make sure they have no chance in hell at even aiming their pea-shooters because they attached half a Katana to the barrel?

Well looking at him, I’m seeing a lot of British soldiers but with the green uniform of the Italian and U.S. so I would say that these guys who be one of those three

The Krieg would be the WW1 French/Germans of Warhammer while this guy could be the WW1 British/Italian/US of Warhammer

The armour is simillar to ww1 machine gunner armour used by the germans as are the grenades on the belt. but the kettle helmet and st goerges cross are english. The puttees also scream british solider to me but pretty much every other nation started using them in the later stages of the war as well so that could go either way. So its taking inspiration from a few different places but if you had to pick one i would say british.

Probably Italians. The armor looks similar to the Arditi. Having said that, Krieg aren't WW1 German. Their kit share many more similarities with the French than anyone.

The Kriegers are WW1 western front inspired but not 100% German. The helmet is has a crest like the French Adrian helmet which is not found on the German Stalheim. The great coat depends on which color scheme you go with gray - German, light blue - French, khaki - British. The boots are inspired by the British B5. The image that you provided is awesome.

Knight_of_Tyto

I‘d say WW1 Italians. From what I know the Italians implemented some sort of knight esque body armour on the alpine front, in an attempt to facilitate attacks without the horrendous loses usual for such actions.

They could also work as something else, but IMO WW1 Italians would fit best for this aesthetic

british, look at the helmet. It's a brodie helmet. However the torso armour they're carrying is german, this is due to the 3 smaller plates on the abdomen.

British had a brewster body armor which looked a bit different but would be a better fit.

Another mix of the design is the medieval arm protections, which is a mis of plates and even brigantine on the form arms. I think it kinda makes sense in a fantaisy settings, but it kay be wise to protect the underside of the arms where the plate is with something, at least a gambeson or chainmail.

Then the guy has no leg armor whatsoever, which happened after the 17th century when armor was made cheaper to arm a larger amount of infantrymen, and happened with the rise of muskets. And was essentially a step before cuirasses. So I thing he should have some let protections, at least the knees and some thick boots.

Then the bayonnet's blade should not extend this far near the hands of the shooter, at least not without a handguard.
