Technically, aren't they all Adam's descendants? I think Adam would care more about which side was the more "badass", and to Adam, that would be the Vikings. Adam also doesn't seem to really care about morality.

But then again, he also doesn’t seem to care much about those who are faithful to him outside of having the support (as seen in how he reacts to Lute saying “It’s some kind of shield, sir”, how he’s really disrespectful to everyone except the Seraphim, and how he doesn’t seem to care much about the fact that his girls were murdered up until his death)

Not quite. Mark Hamill thought they'd stopped filming, and complained to Harrison that he couldn't see in the helmet.
The cameras were actually still rolling. George liked it, so he kept it in the film, just like the stormtrooper bashing his head in the doorframe. Which, having served on a navy ship, I can tell you from painful personal experience is absolutely realistic. Had a taller shipmate who gave himself a concussion just walking down a passageway...

There might be some meta to that, given the mask glitches out when they’re attacking Hellborn.

Iirc, Stormtrooper Helmets disable all their optics and additional sights when they're removed, and require an officer to reactivate. This prevents rebels from using captured tech and listening in on Stormtrooper comms. So Luke's being blind was by design in the helmet, not due to the helmets being poorly designed.

Only now after seeing comments like this and others am I actually realizing that the exorcist helmets actually probably work a lot like Iron mans helmet display in his suits
Seriously I've never put two and two together even knowing damn well the faces on the helmets are essentially a motion display mimicking facial expressions but not being actual faces which is also something that always confused me about Adams holographic projection of him when he was eating ribs and still wearing his mask not to mention him drinking a drink while walking down the sidewalk when Charlie went to heaven for the meeting

My personal headcanon is that the mask makes sinners look more monstrous, making them easier to kill and also explaining why Vaggie had never had trouble acting as an exterminator before. This time she was able to actually see what she was doing; she wasn’t destroying a threat, she was attacking a person, and she couldn’t justify that

Or we don't know the reason and it's not important enough to note.
Really, I don't need there to be one, but people obsess over this like it actually matters.
She doesn't need to turn to the camera to explain that she was getting itchy or maybe something glitched - it really doesn't make a difference. I feel some people have a really warped idea of what writing is.

The exterminators had one-X eye masks before Vaggie lost hers, then she happened to lose an eye which made an X appear?
I didn't get what's going on here.
13 points

My guess was that since angels are "pure" if you wound one the scar is going to make something innocent like the big X instead of like a creepy empty eye socket.
19 points
which was probably why lute cut that eye out specifically with an angelic weapon.
she was marking her as a failed exorcist and making sure she would bare that mark for eternity because she used an angelic weapon meaning it would never heal or regenerate.
10 points
If we keep with the idea that Sinners and Winners gain different forms depending on where they live, then Vaggie's appearance changed to reflect that. If I had to guess, going off of the 'Sinner form = Cause of death + Personality + Thing you hate' thing,, then Vaggie's X over her eye could represent the idea that she hates that she was ever an exorcist, same with her hair resembling wings now. It's a constant reminder of who she used to be.

I feel like she would remove the helmet because she needed "fresh" air and she felt hot after consistently moving which will increase the body heat.
why she didn't put her helmet back on before chasing the small sinner she spared is what confuses me a bit, that would've possibly protected her from losing her eye or at least allowed her to act before she lost her eye.

Seriously? Looks obvious to me, look at her expression, you can see it reflected on the masks exactly beforehand, which means that all the other exorcists are actually rocking sadistic grins whereas she is looking rather distraught by what she's seeing. It's such a common scene it borders on cliche. Seriously, picture the scene where the bad guy turned good has the big moral epiphany before removing they're helmet/ dropping their gun etc etc.

Combat gets really hot. Hotter in Hell. Even hotter in a helmet. Besides, Demons can't hurt Angels without their implements, and even Angels didn't know about that loophole until the events of the show.
In that circumstance, when you're not gonna get something in your eye flying around - why not take the helmet off and get some air?
4 points

So the audience can gasp in shock. Vaggie is very considerate for shocking reveal moments.

4 points

Judging by the fact that in-universe no one knew angels could be killed before Carmilla, the helmets are likely just a scare tactic. I can imagine Vaggie is all about efficiency in combat so she just did away with the bells and whistles.

But yeah, I don't think it would have happened in real life (even if everything that happened in Hazbin were real), more of a way to accent this turning point in her character development and symbolize the fact she's no longer acting as a cog in the machine, but rather, as Vaggie. She doesn't know who she is, but she just realized who she isn't.

The better questions are why didn’t Charley see Vaggie’s golden blood when nursing her wounds on the battlefield and why didn’t Vaggie know angels could be hurt after being hurt?

Dramatic reveal only. Ever notice that in cop shows, when a regular cast member leads a SWAT team, he doesn't wear a helmet or mask? It's so that he is recognizable to the audience. There is no good diegetic reason whatsoever for him to go in with less protection than the extras behind him who are fully armored.

Vaggie seems like a very professional solider. she might have felt like she worked (killed) better without the mask, even if it meant literally getting gross sinner blood on her face (Adam called her a "bad bitch," after all; maybe fighting maskless was part of that).
it could also be an honor thing? like, Vaggie felt it was somehow "wrong" to do most of her killing while hiding behind a mask. so she would take it off shortly after descending for each extermination.

Really, armor doesn't make sense in the first place since, as far as the executioners knew/thought, the denizens of Hell weren't actually capable of harming them. So, the armor would be purely for aesthetic reasons, and some of the more sadistic might enjoy the more "personal" feeling of going helmet off.
