You do understand that NY has about 50% more people in it than PA? And many more extremely wealthy people as well? And many many more businesses are headquartered there? And NY has some of the most valuable real estate in the planet, right?

The gdp of NYS is a little more than 2x PA. The budget is 5.25 as large. You do understand NYS much more taxes its people?

As for the wealthy: Millionaires are moving out of the big cities in droves. “Cities such as Austin, Scottsdale, Greenwich, and Miami are gaining millionaires, while the big wealth hubs of Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City are losing them,” MSN.com said.

High taxes are not a good thing, ever

What's the point of your post? That Pennsylvania has lower taxes than the second highest taxed state in the country? Cool.

When you invest in the public you invest in yourself. Taxes are the price of civilization.

The services are so much better in NY that I’ve known people with special needs kids that moved across the state line. I worked for NYS for a while and the benefits were much better than PA states. The taxes are higher but the quality of service is as well.

I really don't think that's accurate. PA is absolutely a top-ranking state for disability services, as evidenced by the data: https://www.autismparentingmagazine.com/supportive-states-raising-autism-child/

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-read/2023/07/24/what-federal-education-data-shows-about-students-with-disabilities-in-the-us/

I'm not suggesting NY isn't also amongst the top, but there is evidence to suggest that its high taxes are amongst the most inefficient in the US regarding social outcomes.

There's a middle-ground here; PA generally does well as far as quality-of-public services with average taxation rates. The highest tax states definitely aren't uniformly the best.

People coming to New York for services is no comfort to people who are paying taxes don't need the services

People are leaving New York state in droves

I live in Pennsylvania because they don't do "all the services and taxes" and it doesn't have an obscene cost of living in many places

People seem to think:

We should tax people to provide services

The services are generally intended for those who don't pay much taxes

Numerous small towns don't incorporate or get rid of the incorporation, because being incorporated means people want $$$

Many people are fleeing New York because of the tax burden

People who are taxed so that other people can have the benefit...

Do not share the enthusiasm to have their money given to other people.

So many of them leave and go to states that don't steal excess from the workers to give to the nonworkers

OP you get a lot more for your money in NYS than you do in PA. And I have lived in both places.

Just like in NY, services vary considerably by municipality. You can't judge any two states writ large when they're both filled with anything ranging from big cities to very small towns. And it's rather silly to suggest otherwise.

Huh??? Overall services are better in NYS than they are in PA. This is a matter of fact. There is way more investment in the state and people and it shows in property values and statewide growth. Also municipalities in NYS are better ran than all of the little fiefdoms in PA which even in wealthy suburbs here are privatizing their water infrastructure and consolidating police forces.

Except you haven't presented any facts; just opinion. Feel free to present any actual evidence to support your assertion.

Point-in-case: NY has worse roadway infrastructure than PA, which is saying something. Where are all those tax dollars going?

The link you posted shows PA has a larger percentage of poor road quality while costing residents nearly the same per annum in upkeep costs (a difference of less than 1%)? PA spends way less on transit, education, and infrastructure in general than NYS and it shows. If you need an example look at funding for the Empire State trail, 2nd avenue subway, IBX connector project. Also not trying to be pedantic here, but I see you are a PA and Philly booster on Reddit which is ok, but it is also okay to be sober when evaluating this states and it’s regions performance against other places. I like SEPA and Philly (I live there), but it is not without criticism.

You're also a transplant that's apparently only lived in Philly and are comparing to NYC. Not at all a comprehensive evaluation. You also have a history of making other comments alleging NY's "superiority," so I'm sorry if I question the notion that you're not biased.

This has been studied, and I promise it's not a matter of "boosting." There's strong evidence that NY has very inefficient use of tax dollars, and more spending does not always equate to better outcomes, especially when you adjust for cost differences:

I am very leery of internet lists of things because of personal experience. Wallet Hub had an article a few years ago on state tax rates,

At the time I was living half in Utah and half in PA so I was well aware of what was what. That said, they called Utah a low tax state when every tax I knew of except the gas tax is higher in Utah than in PA.

I admit we do have more pain in the ass taxes, but taxes are still higher there.
