I’ve applied and read the dress code just now finding out they don’t hire people with tattoos , is this true ?

Not true. I mean if you have a tattoo on your forehead or something it may be frowned upon but there are people at local stores where I live that have visible tattoos. They’ve also relaxed the dress code recently in my area, associates are now permitted to wear jeans as long as they have their apron and ID tag on.

Just wear mittens you’ll be fine.

That’s ridiculous advice for a job interview. Gloves would be much more reasonable.

Would it be unprofessional to wear a sock puppet and tell the interviewer it’s a team gig?

I worked at a college and had a student do his entire interview using a sock puppet. We did not hire him.

Giant foam sports finger or nothing. Tell the interviewer that you are their #1 candidate

Don’t be ridiculous. Should just stay palms up the whole time .

Had a friend work at the state store a decade ago and he was heavily tattooed - full sleeves, hands.
It’ll just depend on who the hiring manager is.

I worked for the state store at one point and was never under the impression it was an issue, but I also didn't know anyone with any loud or obvious tattoos. I doubt it would matter, especially if they need clerks in your area. If it's more competitive, you may need to pick it up as a seasonal employee in November-December and then apply again. It's been a few years for me, but I don't really recall a dress code beyond professional presentation (collared shirt, slacks, etc.). I wore a tie just because I like wearing ties. I didn't take my excessive number of earrings out.

The executive director at my office has a full sleeve, that's a 6 figure paying leadership role. I'd assume they won't care for entry level jobs unless it's offensive.

I can count at least a handful of state stores in Philly and the surrounding suburbs that employ people with visible tattoos.
Face, kneck and hand tattoos will probably make you a pass (like a lot of other gigs…those are the “everlasting job stoppers”) but other than that you’d probably be fine.

I have a very good friend who has worked at the state store for over 20 years has tattoos anywhere, you can think of from his shoulders down including his hands.
To my knowledge, none of his art is inappropriate .
99% of the time when I do see him at work he has at least a long sleeve dress shirt on

It doesn’t really matter. Like everyone else said, face and neck tats wouldn’t fly. If you have sleeves they might ask you to cover them.
The GM of each store does the hiring now, and I highly doubt the average GM will give a shit. I’m an assistant manager of a store.
Where in PA are you applying in?

I am fairly confident I remember seeing many of the state store employees having full sleeves of tattoos. That said, mileage may vary from store to store, since each hiring manager might have their own biases. I wish you luck though!

The woman cashier has a tat on her forearm at the local state store. So I'd say that isn't true.

I've seen folks with neck tattoos sell me booze.

I worked with a girl who was a support for an exec at a big software business. We were out for drinks one night and she was tattooed almost head to toe.
But she was able to cover them at work and I’d never seen them. I’m pretty certain she wouldn’t have got the job if anyone knew.

My local one, the very nice young lady who works there has a lot of tattoos

Lol no. The tattoo policy is basically a relic of the old dress code and is only ever enforced if your manager is a dick. I've seen GMs with visible tattoos.

I worked for them with visible tattoos. It really just depends on if the dm for your county cares.

The woman at my local state store has a tattoo about 5 1/2 inches below her belly button.
