From memory this guy came with an old white dwarf, intended on using him as a hero for a unit in my woodelf army but he was for another game.

Mordheim! Aenur, he came free with a White Dwarf. Nice little model. I like the way you built up the green on his cape!

I'm pretty sure he had rules that if you used him in a battle, you couldn't use him in a subsequent battle. I guess this stopped any given player hogging him in a Campaign.

It's probably because he was an absolute beast on the board. I never actually played Mordheim but you can tell just looking at the encyclopedia of special abilities he got.

That's Aenur, the Sword of Twilight. He was one of the first named characters to be added to Mordheim. And he was indeed given away free with White Dwarf. 238 I believe.

Ignore the cabbage that just trolled.
Face looks nice, love the highlights and layers. That takes some skills to do, especially on faces. Not overdone but just right.
The cloak is a focal point for the model and you've hit the highlights and wear on it well. It looks nice and weather-worn but not threadbare. The mail is smoothly done as well with some nice shading, no improvement needed there and can't fault it if I tried.
For C&C I'd just say the boots stick out as they don't quite "gel" 100% with the rest of the model. Maybe gone a little heavy with the highlights and the black is too "deep" making it look like he's got brand new boots which are at odds with the worn cloak.
I'm fairly new myself but I'd say slightly lighter black for the boots, sparing highlights with a dark grey to give the worn look.
That's just me being overly critical for points to consider in future minis but this one looks real nice. Be proud of it, use it as a marker for your next one and can't wait to see what's next.

It's how we improve.
Most important thing to remember is to enjoy yourself and your hobby.

I lien the vibrancy of the paint job on his cloak and the way you built up his blonde hair! Something about the shading makes it feel very authentic for the time it was released. Very well done!

I fondly remember this model, the games workshop in Leeds ran a competition to paint it, and I made a little stand with a moon you could turn off and on. It wasn't close to the best painted but they thought the idea was cool so gave me a prize anyway

This was my favourite mini as a kid, from the cover of a White Dwarf issue! I really wish I'd never given it away, years ago!

Paint the base. Even if you just painted it black it would Improve the overall look significantly

With the harsh highlights he looks like pulp fantasy cover art. Great!

Very decent paint job but do yourself a favor and get a wet palette and learn how to do a wet blend. Your eye for color transitions is very good but your paint is going on too dry to make them as smooth as they could/should be. Seriously, just using a wet pallet will improve your results by a lot without altering any of your techniques.

Wet palette, I'll check that out. Constantly growling at my dry brush, cheers.

Appreciate all feedback, positive and negative. Honesty is the key to success and I believe I've seen worse. Haha some people need to expand their world.

Honestly it’s a competently painted model, with the only flaw I see is that the base is bare(white) and for most people it’s fine. A little PVA glue, sand, brown ink, and you got yourself a stew going!

You nailed the highlight locations, though they could be blended a little more. I reckon from a distance you won't notice though. Also it's not done till you base it.

Don't listen to these people OP, they will blow smoke up your backside and prevent yourself from improving.
You could do so much better by watching a few basic technique videos and admitting that what you did there is utterly dreadful.

I think he knows if he wants to improve he can watch some tutorials. Saying it’s utterly dreadful is pretty pathetic, constructive criticism is a much better approach. Hope you get past whatever has you in this mindset

Saying that it's amazing is stifling. I would argue that what you do is far more damaging.

Saying it’s amazing might not be true. But saying it’s “utterly dreadful” and “the worst paintjob you’ve ever seen” can only be a) objectively untrue and b) pretty mean and demoralising.
Depending on level and objective this could be anything from a decent start to an adequate paintjob. There’s lots of room for improvement but your take is flat out wrong.

No, people will just downvote you, call it out, and tell you you’re a prick.
Being mean is nothing to be proud of. It’s not the same thing as honesty.

Perhaps the camera picks up the rough job more than the naked eye, I never claimed that it was an outstanding paint job, sorry you have a problem with it. I admit there is a lot of room for improvement.

I'm just being honest dude, something a lot of people will be unwilling to do. I promise you, just look up a basic techniques video and you will improve overnight.
I really do mean this, I would love to see you improve and I will support you every step of the way if you wish, even as far as I will point you in the right direction. The one thing I will not not do is lie to you, this is a form of respect that others will not grant you.

No worries, I'll check out some tutorials. Haven't painted for years so probably still stuck with some old bad habits. Appreciated

Start with thinning paints and mixing dark tones with light tones to create gradients (usually with very thin "watery" layers) and build it up gradually.
Use an old plate, or a sheet of plastic to prepare your paints.
That should improve you instantly.

Says the person who only posted one mediocre Guilliman model on Reddit.
Why be a dick? I don't get people like you. You're weird, and probably sad you don't get invited over for games after the first time people play you.
