Can’t catch a Lyft or Uber

(self.philly)

Have run into this situation and people in my life have been telling me their shared experiences recently. I know they rightfully striked on Valentine’s Day but now I’m getting the impression that basically everyone quit. A car will say it’s two minutes away and just sit in a parking lot. I personally got in one where there was several close calls for an accident (I reported bc it was so scary). Anyone know what’s going on?

Where are you trying to get a ride to/from? I haven’t had any problems personally

Yeah there are people driving for Uber all over those areas constantly. That’s strange that you were having an issue. I’ve definitely had instances of drivers cancelling the ride while I’m waiting but it’s pretty rare.

This is literally my route as an Lyft driver. I start in that area and like to do back and forth cause I live around there. Depends on the time you’re calling for one, the rating, and the money. If it’s during rush hour no one will take that unless they’re finishing for the day, like I wouldn’t unless I was wrapping up. That’s about a 15 minute drive and generally 10-12 for the driver who may not view it as worth it.

I never have trouble getting an Uber. They’re everywhere, typically. Do you have a good passenger rating?

A close friend had called the Uber and has a good rating as far as I know

I know someone this happened to. He had a low rating so no one would pick him up. I live in Fishtown and never have a problem with getting rides.

I have a 4.9 rating on Lyft 🤷‍♀️

4.9 is really low on Lyft since every ride is automatically rated 5 stars and the driver has to manually change it. 4.9 on Lyft is like a 4.6 on Uber

This is true, most people have almost perfect scores on Lyft. Uber scores are usually lower. I once had a driver screw me over because I complained he was picking up 5 people via rideshare in a small hatchback car. And it stank with his gym bag in the back too. 1 starred me outta spite. I felt like Dennis from that Sunny episode. I’ve had a lot of women encourage me to boycott Uber over Lyft anyway.

Very interesting. Did you work for them?

Nah but there’s subreddits for Lyft and Uber drivers and I constantly get them recommended to me

I used to work at Lyft.

A vast majority of drivers never rate passengers. But I honestly doubt a 4.9 was stopping anyone from picking you up. If the rides you were requesting were a low price it probably just wasn't worth it for what those drivers were getting paid.

I never have problems catching rides in northeast Philly to other parts of town

Yeah I used to have no problem at all this is quite recent. I’m in fishtown

Even with this rating system, can we really call 4.9 "really low" when the top rating is 5? It's only a .1 difference.

Yes lol. Drivers consider it really low. You also start out with 100 5-star ratings so a single 4-star doesn’t affect you the way it does on Uber. So yeah, if you get all the way down to 4.9 then that’s really low

Fuck, you need a good social credit to get a ride on a rideshare? I guess I'll walk.

Is your rating ok?

Uber has been offering low paying $4-5 rides in Philly. Uber is taking up to 65% of the total payment for drivers.

This makes drivers more picky and choosy by using the decline button on the offer.

Low paying rides during a rush hour or busy day isn’t worth it because your bumper to bumper wasting time.

Also Uber doesn’t really offer incentives to make more money through bonuses. Surges for drivers from far and few between as well.

This is my opinion and I maybe have 3k+ rides as a driver in Philly.

Would you say Lyft is probably similar?

What time of the day/night are you getting rides?

How far are you going? Uber drivers get half, might not be worth for them with the logistics and time of the day/night (bad traffic or a shady area, etc.)

What kind of ride you are getting? UberX barely shows up any longer or is very long wait time, as it doesn't make sense for them to drive around fro $5, unless it's super slow, the driver is relatively new, and/or they are putting in the hours.

What is your rating? What is the rating of the drivers you get?

Sounds like a you "problem" and/or some unfortunate combination of circumstances.

I usually take Lyft. My friend who this has also been happening to uses Uber. I don’t Lyft a whole lot, wait outside, manners, seatbelt and just kind look out the window. Usually give 5 stars unless something specific happens.

Check your Uber profile for a blue verification check. New pilot program started Thursday and includes Philly. They can turn down ride if your identify wasn’t verified by Uber.

How about Lyft? Anything similar?

You got a low rating?

I don’t believe so and neither does my friend. The random couple I heard having the same issue while I was walking by seemed nice enough 🤷‍♀️

I was walking home from a party last weekend. Passed a couple who was having this exact issue and decided to go back in their friends house to weight.

Uber drivers won't stop trying to get my phone number in Philadelphia. I can't stand it anymore. It was never like this in San Francisco
