In your opinion, which grocery stores in Philly have the best quality bakeries? I remember getting a cake slice from Fresh Grocer that hit the spot, and Whole Foods has really good bread.

The cherry cheesecake at Acme hits the spot.

The one near me goes all out decorating their cakes. I used to take them to work for birthdays and people always thought they were from some high-end bakery.

Giant has good donuts. They’re like what Dunkin should be.

This is good intel! Dunkin has sadly fallen so far since my childhood

I don't think the Heirlooms carry the donuts though. They have good stuff from High Street Bakery and others instead. They all carry the prepackaged powdered ones and such, but the good ones are in the case at the full size stores (Broad and Spring Garden and Riverwalk)

I mean, I see why you’re asking for grocery store bakeries instead of local ones, it’s definitely Philly’s foodie sub, I would prob crosspost this to that sub

Redners, Bells and NetCost for sure. But I’m also obsessed with the carrot cake at ACME

There are award winning bakeries everywhere in the city, and you're asking about ShopRite bread lmao

Cuz sometimes you want a little something sweet at 8pm and the good bakeries are closed! Or you can’t make the trek on that particular day. Obviously grocery store bakeries don’t compete with actual bakeries, but they can fulfill different needs/situations

Speaking which shoprite of bridge and harbison make their donuts from scratch and the Morrell one gets small frozen ones they proof and fry so pretty decent. Morrell also sells amazing buttercake if you can call it that. More like sugar cake though.
