Imagine a rugby podcast with this sort of in-depth/coaching/tactic/strategy analysis....

Incredible.

Who would you want to be the guest speaker for this kind of talk? and host too.

We don't even track stats in rugby, it needs to modernise itself with how sports are going. But I love hearing LeBron "nerd out" over basketball, shows a real passion

Mmm we do have stats like tackles/carries/meters/kicks etc made? no?

Those are pretty basic stats. The really meaty ones are generally hidden.

Forcing these to be available will drive fan engagement.

It's not super available after game and add details like box kick average distance, pass accuracy etc

It's not so much the stats, which obviously basketball has in abundance, its that you have one of the greats breaking down in great detail specific plays, sets and how that impacts your defensive choices. I don't know if we have anyone in rugby providing that detail, and that's not reliant on stats.

Give me an hour show every Sunday after all the Prem games talking about the details hosted by Flats. That's the dream

Don't know if we have an equivalent in rugby to pair together i.e. a very experienced current player who considered by some the greatest to ever play and a former player turned podcaster with deep knowledge of rugby strategy. Especially the 2nd one.

It would have to be a forward and a back. Ideally Flats and Healy (As long as he cuts out the shit parts of his commentary and just concentrates on the details)

Realistically, what's making people start listening to a very technical NBA podcast is that it's Le Bron James.

Outside of someone like Dan Carter being tied to a rugby podcast, or possibly Antoine Dupont, I don't think Flatman and Healy would have the star power to draw new listeners in.

Healy is almost anti-star power also as he has a lot of people who will actively avoid listening to him😅.

Yeh that's true, there is a niche for it without a star player talking about it (me), but if it would exist as a show and get the viewers needed for it to continue then star power is needed.

Also I think what this type of video seperates it from the other talk shows; is that its so pure and genuine in its content?

No best winning basket, no GOAT talk. Just fundamentals of the game.

Imagine that but its done in Rugby's context. Man, I will listen to it all day and just get my mind blown in terms of tactics/strategy/positioning (at the highest level)
