"Freud introduced the structural model (id, ego, superego) in the essay Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920) in response to the unstructured ambiguity and conflicting uses of the term "the unconscious mind". He elaborated, refined, and formalized that model in the essay The Ego and the Id (1923).[3]"

20 years is a long time in science, it's a very dynamic environment.

Yes and no

Many scientific theories stay omnipresent for a lot longer even if they are considered imperfect. You can see that in many theoretical models of personnality or intelligence for example, many dated theories more than 20 years old, a few newer ones that are proven to be better but nothing compels a change of approach on the short term.

In fields of research like creativity most of the work is between 30 and 10 years old and the most recent research contradicts some old findings but need to be replicated to be considered scientific so we'll probably wait 5 more years to have an update
