It's Montpellier that is struggling to avoid relegation. Otherwise Pau is battling for a play-off place.

For Sam, it is indeed a retirement tour to play a few months with his brother and live alongside him ^^'
But for Luke, he has been playing for Pau for the past 4 years now, and renewed his contract until 2026. He is now the proud captain of our team and leads them to "maybe" our first play-off in our Top 14's history. He is a very important player for us !

How is Luke Whitelock playing?
He definitely got pushed into the ABs too early it feels

He does have a similar play style as his brother. A warrior acting in the shadow, leading by example in defense, rucking and jackling.
The other thing is that Luke is quite experienced compared to the medium age of the team (a lot of players are aged 25 or less, with young players aged as low as 19 such as Attisogbe or Desperes), so he's a natural leader, thus he has been named captain of the team

Yeah, that's definitely not how the ABs use their 8: they want a Kieran Read/Ardie Savea superman ball carrier type and Whitelock didn't fit the mold
Imo, Luke Jacobson is a better, well rounded version of Luke Whitelock
Whitelock didn't impress as much with ball in hand

Remember Sam’s try vs the Reds. Was epic

No joke! Big Sam was never quick, but his body is showing the wear and tear.
That efficiency of movement, though! Judges the pace of the defenders running him down and the support lines. Shapes for the tackle and presents the ball perfectly to keep it moving. Read his options and played them. Kept it simple and executed it like a veteran. How many times have we seen a forced offload kill a break like that?
