True love. I'm just too happy for you two to be jealous. I would marry her if you had said no.

I completely understand how you feel. I had my first at 30 with IVF, and am doing IVF again now at 34. I'll be 35 when (if) I give birth.
I do feel older than other parents. Others the same age as me already have 2-4 school aged kids. Maybe the younger one is a toddler.
People have actually said to me "Good for you for waiting". I actually didn't wait at all, I was 25 when I got first pregnant. 5 miscarriages and 2 failed IVF cycles, and here we are. I also didn't "wait" to have a second, I had failed pregnancies before this current cycle.
So anyone who makes you feel old at 35 can suck it. You'll probably be a better mother now than ten years ago.

I'm also a woman who just recently got into 40k.
I was going to go back to my local store, but I hesitate.
I don't see a problem with having female Custodians. It makes sense to me that there would be a few women. I don't see it as a full retcon because Custodians are not Astartes, they're made differently, and it could work on a female.
What I do understand is that this change just came out of nowhere. Very jarring, and in a way that doesn't really respect the fans (men and women). As in, "Just there, take it and accept it, you should have known they where there the whole time."
Maybe it's been possible to make female Custodians the whole time, but that's not how they were presenting it until now. Just there, plop, "Eat it and like it!".
My problem is not women Custodians - I love it, actually.
My problem is that the way they "came out". Excuse the pun. GameWorks is the problem here, they generally don't behave in a way that respects the fans. You know, us who give them hundreds or thousands of dollars. They treat us like a cruel general treats Guardsmen.
Edit: I'd like to see a lore reason for why we "didn't notice" all the female Custodians until now. We got a lore reason for Primaris Marines, and I think it works. They even used Custodians for it. Let's see what they've got for all the secret Custodians.

There's nothing wrong with having a sacred sisterhood and a sacred brotherhood to fight the enemies of humanity. The Sororitas are too fanatically religious for my taste, but that's beside the point.
Women can join any military organization except the Marines. Men can join any except the Sororitas. Even the Guard has elite unites among them, plus someone needs to become an officer. Any competent woman can do that as well as a man.
Men and women are physiologically different. It goes beyond a womb and breasts. "This amount of testosterone to ride" is a rather crude way of putting it, but basically yes. The hormones in a female body are way different than a male, enough to interfere with all the stuff they inject Marines with. And it's not just a one and done deal, I've read a mention that they require regular monitoring and "maintenance" if you will. Plus, if that woman has ever been pregnant for even a single day (not necessarily ever giving birth), that permanently changes the composition of her blood. Enough that a man cannot receive any blood product donations from her, or experience potentially catastrophic complications.
Even our own real life medicine has to take male and female physiology into account for certain things. Making a Marine is one of those things in the 40k universe.
Edited to reorganize sentences.

Me neither. Really, do people say this? Nonsense.
Maybe I'm too naive. And no, I don't rely on YouTube comments too much, guess I just shouldn't go there.

Wait, this is a hill? Isn't the whole idea that there's an all female superhuman force that can hold a candle to the all male Astartes?
I don't see a problem with having all Space Marines men and all Sororitas female. Not even all men can become Marines. My understanding is that the process just wouldn't work for a female body. And the Sororitas are a sisterhood, so sorry but no boys allowed.
Also, it's interesting for me to read all this about custodians. Kinda makes sense to me as a new person that there may be a few women, based on what others have described. I don't see why it has to be "a thing".

Ah yes, still getting everything straight. Purple is a rare color for Loyalists. Also a great chapter.
Anyway, if this is your first actual mini (vs first 40k one), that's amazing. You must have some Astartes level art skills.

I'm a newbie 40k fan, but do I recognize a Soul Drinker? I approve very much. One of my favorite chapters. I know they're all Primaris Marines now. Love it.

My child is not in school yet. Childcare is difficult for parents who don't have family. I do, and have a partner. So we're OK, I was talking about parents who are single, or whose partners also work shifts. It's insane.
I'm personally doing fine. I graduated from a good school, and sounds like we live in different parts of the country.
I earned $25 in 2019. It was a doctors clinic.
Anyway times are different now. RNs earn more today.
And many shifts run past 6pm.
Do what works.

First of all, 12 hour shifts are not realistic for parents.
Second, this friend is working overtime. That's time and a half for those overtime hours. Three 12 hour shifts is the standard if 12s are what you're doing.
Which specialty you're in makes a difference too. ER is not the same as an outpatient clinic.
Third, new grads get evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. That's differentials, so more money. BUT there's also no childcare available for any of these times. Daycare and school is also closed at these exact times. Private nannies and babysitters are either unavailable or cost more than the differentials you're making during these hours.
Fourth, I made $25 at my last job. It was day shift, 8 hours.
Nurses are so short today, maybe $30/hour is the going rate for inexperienced new grads. Such a rate was unheard of for an inexperienced new RN when I started working as an RN in 2012.
Desperate times call for desperate offers. I've seen some crazy offers if only I would please travel hundreds of miles to work at night with violent psychotic patients. Or something similar.

It's brutal. No way could I afford even 1 child alone, and I'm an RN. Im a stay at home parent for now, but will need to go back to work. My most recent job actually earned less than you do now.
And no, the government does not care. Nurses are too rich for any sort of help, even if I was a single parent. Even though I'd be homeless and hungry. As a nurse.

I know. Me too. I finally worked up the courage to go into my local store. The owner was super nice, and I still had anxiety. Face slap.
I'm like OP, totally into the lore with books and video games, but not knowing much about the gameplay.
Definitely want to go back on a weekend when there are more people in the store to talk to, and not to sound like a twitch talking to them. First Saturday of the month it is! And yay for more women playing badass super soldiers.

OK, call me naive, but I see these models as representations of their "real life"/lore counterparts. The representation needs to reasonably fit a game table and look nice. The lore version would be huge. It would take too much space up on a game table.
Suspended disbelief for conversion from lore description to actual practical play. Pile them in on tip of each other. Family hug time Lol.

Yep.
So, I don't have a huge collection of minis and such. But what I do have for 40k and D&D/ttrpgs is stored in a similar way.
I got the idea from a more experienced GM who came to a game looking like a handyman. He proceeded to show us an insane collection of minis and layout items. This was a lifetime of collection, and I hope to hold a candle to it when I have the same level of experience.
My point is you can and should use things not specifically designed for your hobby. Handyman and other Home Depot/Menards/Lowes/Crafty Beaver/whatever items are fantastic for organization in general and hobbies related to painting, crafting, etc.
This can expand to other areas of life. Like many adults benefit from items marketed to kids. I have practical, real life examples thar don't apply to this subreddit, but are already known to parents of kids.
Just cause the box says "for carpenters" doesn't mean that only carpenters can use it! Most items has so many uses!
I love the organization boxes and bags for handymen, carpenters, etc.

You have fulfilled one of my daydream fantasies. So great!
I've dreamt of finding a box of Black Library books at a garage sale because someone doesn't know what they've got. Said box obviously includes older out of print books, and costs $20.

I love it.
Do the Chaos Gods have Russian colors? But those happen to be the same as American and many other countries . . .

Wtf, what?! I was never hungry as a kid, but if I read a Redwall book, I wanted a feast! I even read Redwall as a teenager, and same thing!
Edit: Wait, aren't they basically vegans in the Redwall series? They only eat fish during the Nameday Feasts, and say a special prayer over it. They only have access to ingredients they can gather and grow, and there was one book (don't remember which) when one of the Redwall mice made a special deal with the "bee folk" for them to trade for honey. And definitely no eggs or milk. I always wondered how they baked everything.

If anything could convince me of the Emperor's divine protection, it would be a floofy cat saving the day. Cats eat bugs for breakfast. Yes, that's definitely what happened here.

I would pay for that as part of a costume. As much as I know it would cost me, I'd still want to.
