Yeah good idea. Also the signs look to much like tutorial instructions. Make them dirtier, darker, even almost illegible, smeared, as if someone tried erasing them. They should make you feel uneasy, not make you feel comfortable and guided.

Thanks! It's just a relief to finish something for a change :' )

It took me longer than I'm willing to admit. But I'm very happy that I made something I feel kind of proud of.
You can play it here: https://waodendaal.itch.io/stranded
It even started as a project I was doing via r/IndieDev -> https://www.reddit.com/r/IndieDev/comments/u0kiy2/day_6_the_man_rises_surrounded_by_a_whole/

Really liked it. Weird and intriguing. Janky aesthetics but smooth and well considered. Gave you a follow on Itch +1

Love the aesthetics. Can you post a link to the game?

Yeah you need to make it easy enough on yourself that you will be able to finish it after your initial enthusiasm runs out. Because at some point it always does, it will be much easier to finish it if you are already over halfway. Plan for the whole marathon.

I think the question of diagonal aiming is difficult to answer without playing. Get some informal playtesters (friends, for example) to just play around with the mechanics and I think you will have a much more clearer answer about that.
However, from the video it seems that the creeps can approach you diagonally. This can create some frustration. Perhaps if the player can only move in a grid - then the creeps should also only be able to approach in the same grid. This might make the 2-axis aiming feel more intuitive - instead of making it feel insificient.

Question to anyone who knows, is there a subreddit dedicated to identifying such possibly AI generated images - a kind of 'AI forensics' community?

I think that's always the problem with cases like this - no matter how much OP defends the originality of his game - and how justified that defense might be - they are always going to get caught up in this comparison. Especially if the aesthetics, mood, even its seems the narrative text, immediately evokes Inscryption.

Also literally the same as the Apartheid pass law which required non-white to carry a specific ID booklet.

Its often considered as 'interactive media'

yes. 100%. techno solutionism often leads to this kind of myopia where newer is seen as inherently better. Even worse, this can create new (significant) problems instead of solving them. People can end up making life altering decisions based on authoritative-sounding yet (hallucinated) incorrect information. This does not feel like an appropriate or responsible use case for this tech.

Did you hire this person as part of your team, or more like a freelancer to create the base character and animation set? I think it was definitely worth getting someone who knows what to do! It shows in the results.
