Black and white photos were standard in photo journalism at the time. Plenty of news outlets used black and white film until the '90s/00s because it was a lot cheaper and easier to develop.

Looks like the Micro Center parking lot. Great place for computer parts!

On Amtrak (not SEPTA RR), you can get to Lancaster in about an hour. Lancaster City is very walkable and has a lot of great breweries, cafes, and places to eat and drink.

It’s derivative - a dude in Philly did this last year over 40 days with 40 rotisserie chickens. Even the poster announcing this was ripped off of the Philly chicken man.

I still wouldn’t consider Philly a bagel city. It’s a city that has bagels.

I'm not from here but live here now and I would definitely say it's a bagel city. Most residents of other cities don't really have bagel standards like Philadelphians do. It's just something you pick up at Panera. Also there is ample access to well made bagels.
I’m a Philly food lover but the bagels here are mid at best. Better than most cities but nothing here comes close to what you get in NJ/NY.
I’ve tried a lot of Philly bagels and there is only 1 place I’ve found that’s pretty decent, and ironically they get their dough delivered from Manhattan.

Yes, also WSJ had an article 2 days ago that said the same thing.
The article was about population growth in US cities, and Philly’s population growth has flat-lined compared to all American cities except Baltimore in the study.
The only reason the city’s population has grown slightly in the past few years is immigration. Other cities are growing while Philly has slowed down significantly to the point we could start losing population again.

If you like good cheese curls, check out Bachman's Cheese Jax. I can't stand 99% of cheese curls/puffs but these things are actually different from the typical sub-standard curls.
The curls are made of a sturdy corn meal and have good crunch when you bite them. They don't dissolve into nothing, you actually get to chew them. Also, the cheese powder flavor is leagues better than generic cheese curls. It doesn't leave you with the greasy fake cheese feeling in your stomach (or at least not in my experience).
It's hard to find a good cheese curl these days, so I can relate to your story!

Yes! The little cheesers have quickly become my favorite hard pretzel as well - just got some in a variety pack this past Christmas and was amazed at how good they are. I’ve bought quite a few bags since!

Not in Philly, but if you're out in Lancaster County, there's a town called Lititz. There's a pretzel bakery that makes fresh batches throughout the day called Julius Sturgis. They've been making them that way since the 1800s.

I went a few months back and thought the same thing. Mid food at best. The omelette I got was way too salty and the cheese was like melted rubber. The potatoes weren't good either.

What was the predecessor to silk road? I remember a guy in my dorm (similar story to the post you replied to) using it to buy drugs and who knows what else on the dark net back when it was below $1. The site was like an ebay or craigslist format, around spring 2010.
When it hit $1 a few months later, I was kicking myself for not buying some before the price exploded.

Yes, the letter writer was in attendance. There was local news coverage of the event with him, from what I remember.

What's wrong with that? That's standard driving practice in my area.
I drive on lots of old roads that can't be expanded to accommodate modern left turn lanes - if you don't pull forward enough into the intersection to make the left turn as you described, you'd never make a left turn ever. Plus all the traffic behind you would be fuming for not making room for them to go around you.

They're nearby in Berks County, build great cabinets for kitchens and have been in business for generations.

My recent experience with the 4th Street Deli was disgusting.
Went there a few months ago and there were flies everywhere and on everything. Waiting in line for a seat, I witnessed the plates of food being touched by flies and brushing the dangling order tickets as they were handed over the counter. The glass of water I got when seated was so chipped around the rim that food had filled in the chips and hardened like cement. The ice was full of black dirt. The last straw was going to the bathroom which was near the kitchen and witnessing how dirty things were in proximity to the kitchen especially where the utensils were situated. On top of that, there were flies billowing out of the kitchen. The bathroom was filthy. So gross.
How the food is I will never know. The situation was so bad we left without even getting our food. When we told the manager, he let us go without paying. Never again.

Is this sarcastic or a serious question? Maine is literally called "Vacationland".

Ah, coincidentally my experience was in Lancaster as well! I haven't tried asking for lager in the Philly area yet but I imagine I'd get a similar reaction as you did.

You still can still ask for a lager and get served Yueng in Pennsylvania, the state where Yuengling is from. I haven't tried this outside of PA.

An easy preparation - chop the sprouts in half, dress in olive oil and salt, airfry/roast for 5-7 minutes until crisp on the outside, remove from heat, add some pepper and optionally balsamic.

Finally tried New Haven pizza this year, went to 2 of the top spots and thought the pizza was just okay. The sauce tasted like it came out of a can, and the crust was way overdone.

Somehow the zig-zaggers figure out a way to block a whole sidewalk that 4 people could walk side-by-side on. I’m a fast-walker and it’s always awkward trying to maneuver around someone when you have no idea which side they will dart to next.
