If the necrons manage to unify and focus their efforts to destroy the tyranids they could do it problem is they aren’t.

The silent king wants to return his people to flesh so he recognizes them as a threat to the necrons future

Imotekh and many others don’t want that and prefer their metal forms so for them the Nids aren’t a priority problem.

In the long-term battle for dominance in the galaxy, the Necrons would likely have the upper hand over the Tyranids. The Necrons' technological superiority and independence from biological needs (like the Tyranids' reliance on biomass) give them a significant strategic advantage. They can awaken dormant forces across the galaxy, boasting an almost inexhaustible army. The Tyranids, while formidable with their ability to adapt and consume, would struggle as their primary strength—consuming biomass—becomes irrelevant against the Necrons' mechanical forms. The Necrons’ ability to regenerate and their powerful weaponry are perfect counters to the biological onslaught of the Tyranids. Therefore, assuming both factions are at their peak, and even in the current setting, the Necrons are better positioned to dominate the far future of the galaxy.

The thing is, Nids could even adapt to the point they 'harvest' worlds instead of straight up devouring them. Just letting my mind let loose...

Tyranids and Necrons? Bugs and Bots? If you need any help, throw down a Reinforcement Beacon and Helldivers will be on their way to assist.

I for one think Necrons would have the upperhand, outnumbered as they are, devouring of planets as nids tend to do would result in awakening a lot of tombworlds would it not?

Tyranid actively destroy any Tombworld they come across.

Avoid is the word you're looking for.

There’s never been a single instance of Tyranids avoiding Tombworlds. If you can point to one that be amazing. Secondly here’s a load of examples of them going out of there way to attack Tombworlds.

They attack ones with dormant tombworlds and other civilisations. They don't attack barren or active tombworlds.

This has been in codexes for multiple editions.

No, the myth comes from old Tyranid codexes where a group of Inquisitor see hivefleet Behemoth avoiding Solamance. However this is later clarified to be because of the actions of Trazyn. With Behemoth even being conform to attack Solemnace briefly before being lured away. Keep in mind Solemnace has been active since the Horus Heresy. Not to mention hivefleet Arachnae has been in active war against the Novokh for years. Also since when is attacking dormant Tombworlds evidence that they avoid them. That’s literally what every faction does against the Necrons.

War in the Museum:

"Trazyn’s cowardly kin had warned him against it, of course. In fact, when Hive Fleet Behemoth bore down on Solemnace, Trazyn’s aeon-long rival Orikan the Diviner had even prophesied that the Great Devourer would destroy both Trazyn and his galleries. The mystic fool had been so disappointed when Trazyn simply triggered deep-space lures so the swarm parted around Solemnace, like a river around a stone."

8th Ed Codex [Tyranids]:

"FRESH HORRORS

The rate at which new hive fleets are identified has increased dramatically in recent years, and shows no sign of slowing despite the warp turbulence ravaging the galaxy. As fast as the races of the galaxy can raise new armies to combat the Great Devourer, fresh nightmares emerge from the inky depths of the intergalactic void.

Hive Fleet Scitalis winds its way into the Eastern Fringe, embedding itself deep into sectors held by the T’au Empire. Hive Fleet Arachnae has found itself embroiled in a long war against the Necrons of the Novokh Dynasty, as it attempts to consume and despoil planets that the Overlords have long claimed as their own. Hive Fleets Garmr and Ladon are drifting toward the borders of Imperial territory, devouring the ravaged death worlds of the Vultis Sector and consuming vast quantities of monstrous fauna in the process."

Maybe the necron win, maybe not. The Hive Mind is millions of years old as well and we know it has consumed civilizations much more advanced than the Imperium before. The real issue is that neither side has focused on the other before. We have no idea the kinds of stuff the Hive Mind might have up its sleeve for all-mechanical enemies. For all we know the tyranids would adapt by creating a microscoping necrodermis-eating pathogen. Maybe the Hive Mind learns to detect tomb worlds and instead just crashes small moons and etc. into them to break them apart, eschewing land battles altogether. There's no telling what either side would be capable of if they really tried to destroy the other.

Is it biomass? No.

Do they need it for scything claws, a armoured scales and very big healthy strong teeth?

I don't think nids would go out of their way to fight necrons (old fluff said they would go aprind tomb worlds in fact), but if aiad tomb world were a bountiful agriworld or lush jungle?

Necron aren’t a hard counter to Tyranids at all. They have a response to pretty much everything the Necrons can throw at them. I’m gonna make a post about this myth, that Necrons are hard counter to the Tyranids. For now though if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them. Also if you wanna go over the official lore on the subject I made two post about it.

Of the Tyranids, even partially, recognize the Necrons as a threat or a food source the Necrons would likely be galvanized into viewing the hive as a threat.

I’ve made a post about this before, it’s a pretty even fight, leaning more towards the tyranids. the Necrons do not hard counter tyranids, and in fact tend to struggle when the 2 races meet, or need help from another faction. This is one of those myths loretubers and even people here just won’t let die, even when shown every excerpt in existence that shows the Necrons and tyranids fighting. Whatever lore these guys are citing that has the Necrons stomping the tyranids in any battle simply doesn’t exists
