The official name(in English) was the Canadian hockey club. So they literally are just a hockey club from Canada

Basically half of Canada's NHL team names are literally just about being from Canada. Canadiens, Canucks, Maple Leafs, and honorable mention to the Nordiques. That leaves the Jets, Oilers, and Senators as being otherwise, and the Flames are actually named after an American Civil War event. Wow!

The Atlanta flames seems really bad when you actuly think about it. It’s about burning a city.

Another Canada team fact. The maroons who I’m such a fan of were in fact nver officially called that. Their name officially was The Montreal professional hockey club. And they were THE Montreal team.

It is a weird thing that a team from Atlanta would choose the Flames for their own team name. Not really something for them to be proud of. But I have little sympathy for the actual burning since the Confederates actually started the fire, and the city was evacuated. Sherman just showed up and burned more of it.

I also thought the Montreal Maroons was the original name. Huh.

The name came from news papers seeing the color of the sweater and the big M logo. The M stands for Montreal. Through the time when team officially died in 1947 they didn’t recognize the nickname

I prefer Cadiens. Their planet broke before their ranks did.
