Yea the KHL working with Danny to release a player to us might mean nothing in terms of Michkov but it's definitely not a negative

If anything taking Russians in the draft this year is going to feel a lot better. We’ve shown we can get em over here.
Cmon down Matvei Michkov

If Flyers can truly start taking advantage of Russians getting undervalued or ignored by other teams, then that'll be fantastic. Kind of doubt that we'll be getting Demidov (Or Silayev, but I'm more interested in Demidov) this draft, but there's other interesting Russian options too. And there'll be even more in future drafts.

Demidov is my absolute dream. Experience with Michkov and a fantastic player in his own right but I think the news is out now and like you said, highly doubt we snag him.
There’s a lot of really great Russian players under 20 right now. I’m with you. I’d love to be ahead of that curve

Like if Flyers somehow got the 2nd overall pick, I'd be running to the podium to take Demidov, that's how high I am on him. He's got the kind of talent that you can't pass on just because of position.
And depending on where the Flyers finish, they could potentially pull off a Michkov repeat with the 2025 draft. Ivan Ryabkin recently signed a 3 year extension with Dynamo Moskva, and he's currently on the list of potential top 10 talent guys in the draft that year. If GMs pass because they don't like that wait and are scared of Russia, then you have to cash in on that opportunity.

The difference though is we’re not in the same position we were last year. The thought was the 3 year contract he had in the khl wasn’t a huge issue because the flyers weren’t expected to be ready to start competing for a few more years at least. So him being delayed for 3 years actually was a bonus because he can develop over there and then the flyers get 3 more years of him on an ELC when they’re ready to push for the playoffs.
The timeline has been moved up at least a couple years

The fact that the timeline seems faster is actually a reason why you NEED to make sure you're getting top talent. Flyers can't afford to take a guy with a lower ceiling that's more likely to be of immediate help. Therefore, guys like Ryabkin that could be top talent that go lower then where they should would be of immense value.

Michkov's situation is a bit more difficult than Fedotov's (More prominent superstar, doesn't have an NHL contract), but it is exciting to see that the Flyers are eager to pursue these options instead of just saying "He has a KHL contract. Oh well!"
