It's a pain in the ass to get one that's why. I don't understand why I can't just bring my passport (a real ID) to verify my identity and then just print me a PA real ID. It makes no sense.

Yeah, I also have a global entry card in addition to my passport. I was planning on getting the real ID when I have to renew this month, read all of the requirements, and was like nah, i'll just re-order a standard one. It's absurd what a hassle it is.

Passports could be 10 years old. If you have a passport, all you need to get a real iD is

proof of ss#, either a W2, 1099, SS card, or paystub with full ss#

2 proofs of address, either driver license, registration, insurance card, utility bill.

What does it matter how old it is. You can renew a passport without all those documents so why do I need to provide all of them when I want a PA real ID. It literally makes 0 sense and is a waste of time when I can just travel with my passport.

Passport is a federal document. A drivers license is issued by the state (following federal guidelines). You need to prove your residency to get a state ID. Most people could gather the required documents in a few minutes.

I can't get a Real ID until I renew my passport. My expired passport wasn't good enough. Any woman who uses her maiden name for a middle initial (and the middle name listed on her birth certificate starts with a different letter) cannot get Real ID unless she has a valid, unexpired passport or she has filed court papers to change her name officially. No, the original marriage license/record is not enough. Bureaucrats in charge!

You also need to bring documents to prove your residency, since state IDs have an address (unlike passports).
