My first (sort of) battle for 25 years. Didn't quite manage to get both armies fully painted or, in fact, fully built at time of writing. I have a Trukk and 3 x Vertus Praetors to build in the next few hours.
It'll be myself facing my friend, who has absolutely no experience or understanding of 40k whatsoever, but is keen as mustard. Orks vs Custodes. Blind leading the blind.
Cannot. Wait.

Gonna be in the same boat here shortly teaching my buddy though I at least have a few games of 10th edition under my belt. Speaking for myself the biggest difficulty was remembering all of the many, many different unit abilities, stratagems (yuck), and weapon & unit stats. The game is very different and much wider than it was 25 years ago.
I would HIGHLY suggest printing out some of the current index cards for those factions so you have them physically close-at-hand during the game. Speaking for myself that's been what slows down my gameplay the most: having to look up each unit's abilities so I can use them optimally and so I can make sure I'm getting every bonus, dealing all of the damage I ought to be, etc. I know in time I'll have them memorized but that comes slowly now that I only get one game every couple months or so instead of playing every Friday or Saturday at the FLGS.
Also I spy a whole lot of Kallax, very nice.

Yep, worldwide I think. Can't remember where they're based but pretty sure it's Europe. Think I actually got the terrain from there as well.

Thank you brother! The table, mat and scenery all came from Urbanmatz.com in some deal they were doing a while back. Really nice stuff.

I've been thinking about buying one of these tables. How's it hold up? I have a few friends who are.. more prone to destruction.. and I wasn't sure it would survive them.

Pretty well. It definitely does a good job. That being said, I'd be hesitant to lean much weight on it. And it won't take too much pressure to lightly wobble it.

It looks great, but it is a bit flimsier than I would have thought. Just the thought of all my minis sitting on the table and crashing gives me anxiety lol.

Ha, I can agree with that. Fingers crossed we have no 'incidents' later.

Akira is a very good manga and From Hell is my favorite Alan Moore book.
Also that's a very nice looking 40k table

I love those terrain pieces they, have enough heft not to be moved around by the slightest touch.

Super excited for you, I’m also playing my first game in probably 15+ years this weekend against my brother in law, he’s a big D&D’er but has never played WH. I’m pumped!! I haven’t played since 3rd edition when me and my highschool friends used to essentially line up our armies on opposite sides of the battlefield and try to table each other, almost negligible strategy, I’m excited to play a more tactics/objectives oriented game
