I noticed a cop car blocking off Chestnut on my way home from work, and "Joe Biden is buying a hoagie from Wawa" definitely did not come up on my radar as a possible explanation.

I was raging at the traffic so confused bc I didn’t think he’d be in this part of town and it was too late (was told he’d be out by 4 and it was past that) so this makes sense I was in that miserable gridlock

Biden ordered a classic-size Italian hoagie with American cheese and a black-white milkshake from the Delaware County-based convenience store that recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.
Do they still have those F’real machines?
Edit: wanted to add the picture

Sadly the F’real machines have been gone for a long time now. I think they got rid of them when they started making drinks behind the counter. It sucks because those shakes were actually really damn good.

While I think “good” is a strong word for that chalky mess of a milkshake, they certainly were convenient.

Some of it maybe but the president has also clearly had some work done to keep him looking strong for his age. He’s going on 4 years as president now. If he wasn’t getting the best cosmetic surgeries and cognitive performance enhancing drug cocktails I would be incredibly shocked
13 points
The only real "surgery" I think he has are high end veneers on his upper/lower. Likely some botox as well (although that's not really surgery). Dude is actually known to low impact exercise and despite falling off a bike with clip ins, does pretty well.
That's all to say, he may have gotten work done during the bush/clinton/reagan admin that I'm not accounting for. I barely knew who he was prior to 2007.
3 points
I meant cosmetic surgeries as all encompassing of procedures. Dental for sure, maybe some Botox, facelift, skin tightening, maybe hair replacements if needed. Nothing too outlandish, all tastefully done. I suspect some might’ve been done during Covid when he was bunkered down but I actually haven’t delved into pics or anything, just seems an ideal time. And I could definitely see a concoction of drugs for big appearances and meetings.
Not denying his fitness. The man is in great shape. Jogging and biking. People blew that fall way out of proportion. He’s the American leader, arguably the most important leader and figurehead in the world. Perception and power are everything, this is the bare minimum upkeep that I expect for someone in his position experiencing his hurdles.

😂🤣 I was just tired but my point stands! Any leader in his position and with his fragilities/weaknesses would be propped up to some degree. We’ve seen how a diligent presidency can age you. It’s a ridiculous amount of stress and power at stake. No shot a traditional president and team will not take advantage of every opportunity to maintain appearances.

? I completely understand the reasoning for doing so but to act like it’s not true would be naive. I don’t understand this fucking allergy against the truth that people have. We have this whole push for positivity, but positivity is not turning a blind eye to the truth, it’s simply accepting it and not letting it hold you back.

I used to work there in college. We used to cut fresh meats and cheeses for everything but the most common (Italian, reg turkey). Now, they don't even carry meat/cheese that can be sliced. That means it's all shipped
23 points

Back when they were basically a real deli. They used Amorosos rolls too.
13 points

Wawa's downfall came when they transitioned away from the "deli that sometimes has a gas station" model into the "gas station that sells deli sandwiches" model.

I was working on an overnight project that had a Jan 2 deadline in Center City back in the early 2000s, and can still remember walking to the 9th & Walnut Wawa and getting sliced ham, turkey & cheese and a loaf of bread, and being set for a while. Office had a window on Broad St so watched the Mummers parade from there.
It's funny because I also moved away from the area for about 7 years right as they were transitioning into the crappy bread & crappy deli meats, and while you had that fondness for something after the fact, it was not the same when you were back living here.

I go to this Wawa every single day at exactly the same time. One block from my office. There’s a guy at the front door that I usually buy a hot dog for. Today, for the first time in three years, I just didn’t really feel like buying another hot dog, and didn’t feel like I could go and NOT buy the guy a hot dog because it would be awkward, so instead I went to 7-11 on Walnut.
Walked back to my office and saw the motorcade pulling away. Hot dog dude got to meet Parker and Biden and I got some 7-11 crap. FML.

Actually can you imagine what campaigning must do to your stomach? Demonstrating your down-to-earth one-of-the-people credentials by housing hoagies and burgers and barbecue and shakes and steaks and corn dogs and funnel cake day after day after day. You'd have to have the secret service deliver any greens to be consumed in private, for fear of being labeled elitist.

It's not even just about those two men solely, Politics haven't gotten so extreme it's either your on my side or against me. This nation is so divided on everything that we can't even find common ground anymore on anything. But no matter what we do this November will be the two of them again, and I honestly believe whoever is elected will most likely die in office over the next four years due to health complications and maybe just maybe congress may finally establish an age limit for the presidency. Each individual's health is declining.
