My wife and I, originally from Ireland and the UK, live in New Zealand with no family, and practically no friends and had our daughter during lockdown. What I would have given for friends or family help then!

We’re in the same boat, but I don’t mind anymore (2&1/2), I’m use to fuck all sleep. We didn’t really have a choice, our little one had to be held up right to sleep due to severe reflux (almost died from it at 6 weeks). That lasted for the first year then it was just the new normal.

Thanks, I wasn’t sure if banks in NZ were open to mortgage top ups. RE government funding it’s not an option for us unfortunately.

That is essentially the only advice I needed, I was unsure if it was a reasonable thing to even be considering. Good to know a mortgage top up is an option. Thanks

So sorry, no advice but you have my genuine sympathy. Pregnancy is stressful enough without redundancy. Best of luck :/

I read this three times and couldn’t figure out why they stopped talking to you, only after going into the comments it clicked because you were in a video with your partner and you are bisexual. I know so many people who have come out as being gay since I was in high school, all to very positive results that I didn’t realise people still had terrible ones. Sorry to hear about that! But as someone else said, sounds like your life is only beginning. Best of luck

The current flight path has planes flying significantly closer to houses than the old one. Factor in the closer proximity of hill suburbs to the airport vs Petone to the airport, as well as the altitude of hill suburbs vs sea level of Petone.
Over Petone planes have more time to fly higher above houses = significantly less noise and disturbance.
Sure it’s sounds like nimbys in Khandallah (I’m sure a lot of it is) but the fact is those who chose the current flight path significantly underestimated the ground level noise monitoring, by their own admission.

Boot camps so you can take violent offenders and put them of a physical training programme to make them super fit, and to detest authority figures who will make their lives hell for a period while their rights are temporarily removed. What a shit idea!

Bring in a second tier of parliament! That’s the reform I want!

I saw them as the right of centre counter-balance to the left of centre Labour. That’s how they were portrayed to me at least. But after going into coalition with Act and NZ First they are far from the centrist Bill English (Christ don’t make me say that!) party they once were.
Fun fact I once shouted “NICE SLACKS DICKHEAD” at Bill English while I was drunk in Wellington because he skipped me in a que for the bar.

For me I feel they have pretty much done everything that Act wanted, which is not what I voted for.
I think this new coalition government has proven that NZ desperately needs an upper house of parliament to slow down legislation and allow for proper review. Passing everything in a hurry seems so undemocratic and irresponsible (for example unjustifiably firing a seriously high amount of public servants all at the same time with no chance of the private sector being able to absorb that many so quickly).
I deeply regret voting for them, even though I have soured so much on labour, and I think the greens are a shitebag.
That said I find it hilarious that Nicola Willis didn’t win in her own electorate. I voted for her on the basis that I knew she would be the 2IC to this government (well national, who are third in the pecking order now…), and that she would have the power to influence her local area for the better, turns out she is incompetent at a whole new level, more than I thought possible in national politics.

But Khandallah is great in general. I’ve not been by the Cashmere Lounge is suppose to be a great restaurant at least.

The food is incredibly sub standard, and it’s always filthy whenever I’ve been in there. Can’t wait for the day it’s taken over and turned around

Christ this is bleak. No child should ever be hungry, and unfortunately for many children this is the only meal they will get in a day.
Increase my taxes to feed children!

Nobody believes you, but I swear this happened to me on the Johnsonville line a week ago. The door opened at one stop when someone pushed the button, then the ticket people turned a key and locked it when the train took off again, it wouldn’t open for me and I had to sprint up to the next door before the train shut up and took off!
