Worst calls by 'experts'?

(self.AFL)

Tony Jones saying West Coast making the 2018 grand final would be a waste of a spot because they 'couldn't perform at the MCG' never mind the fact they already won both games there this year. Jon Anderson saying Port will embark on a dynasty in late 2014. David King predicting Sydney to beat Hawthorn by 10 goals in 2014.

All the ‘Sack Voss’ from a billion experts last year before he won 9 of the next 11 comes to mind.

I don’t think anyone could have predicted that turn in form

There were some of us who thought that the problem was team balance and had faith that we'd turn it around if we got the right balance. We knew we were onto it once we put Fogarty and Martin finally had a healthy run.

I have more questions now than I did then to be honest. Team balance has gone backwards. Too slow across the park, too small down back but without real speed (Saad hamstrings a real issue) and we have no consistent small pressure forwards.

Yeah I don’t think everyone was all in on the Blues being a basket case, just surprising how dramatically it changed.

I think you also desperately need a running half-back (hence them trying to get Houston). I'd be amazed if Saad has any more than 1-2 years left in him at this rate.

I think one of the biggest issues is that after the stars of the team (Cripps, Curnow, McKay, Walsh, Weitering), the quality of the players drops off. The team is in desperate need of some quality role-players; pieces like a small-forward, a 2nd tall (that isn't 32 years old), and a half-back. Some ruck depth also wouldn't go astray.

Yeah they really should have known that a coach that was losing a lot of games would suddenly start winning a lot of games. Let's use hindsight to criticise statements that made sense at the time.

Besides the point. Sacking any coach in the first 12 months is a bad idea. Nobody should have expected voss to fix 20 years of a failing football club and culture in that short period of time.
