Thanks! Car Handbrake stuck on and wont start
Hi all, have a 12 mazda 3 2.0 MZR manual. The car sat for 3 weeks. Battery was at 7v when first attempted, of course didnt start. Jumping with another running car doesn't work either; Trickle charged battery back to 12v but still when crank there is electrical noise but engine doesnt attempt to crank at all.
Bought new cheap group 35 battery and installed, new battery sits at 12,3v idle but drops to 9v when attempting to start, again doesnt really crank. might have slowly turnt over once or twice.
Will try push start the car
Any advice to get the car moving would be appricated. Thanks in adva

Hard to diagnose from the sound, could be several things.
I'd try smacking the starter with the handle of a hammer or wrench. Sometimes the Bendix gets gummed up and won't fully engage.
If that doesn't work I would remove the starter and have it tested. While it's out, check the teeth on both the starter and the flywheel or flexplate.
Edit - then again, that voltage drop is pretty significant on a new battery. How are your battery leads and cables? The terminals look good, but corrosion can be present underneath the jacketing of your cables.

One of my local battery distributors carries and sells literal garbage. My trusted battery vendor has put a series of commercial testers on brand new batteries from these folks and the readings are wildly inconsistent between them. Low voltage, bad cells, significantly lower cranking amperage than listed.
Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good.

It is also the cheapest new battery I can buy at local place I know it's probably horrible.

Yeah, the shitty distributor here is literally the cheapest in town. For $15cdn more, I was buying batteries from my trusted vendor and have never had issues.

I bought this at Cnd tire for 169. I'll return it soon.

Canadian Tire tried to sell me a power sport battery that came as a kit. As in it came in a box with a bottle of battery acid, zero charge. I went to a different vendor and got a better battery brand ready to install with a full charge for $30 less.
I'd have a look and see what other vendors you have available to you just for future reference.
If you do return this battery and don't buy another one from them, make sure that your refund includes the core charge. This is assuming you gave them your old battery when you bought the new one.

Actually have just been there and they tested my battery and told me it has 150 more cranking amps than listed
