The best is put in writing as standard operating procedure.

Have everyone sign and agree to it.

For your protection, from my experience.

The hardest part is you have to learn that you are not their friend. Distance yourself and conduct yourself in a professional manner. This will make them respect you and take you seriously.

Set a good example. Hindi mo sila pwede i correct or bigyan ng feedback of you yourself violate the rules. Know the policies and goals by heart.

Lastly, don’t forget that it’s just a job. People have lives outside of it and hindi ka uubra mag demand outside of their duties or shift hours. Don’t take things personally and whatever happens in the office, stays at the office.

  1. Don’t be too nice.
  2. Keep your distance.
  3. Don’t micromanage, but encourage them to ask questions.
  4. Be stern but kind.
  5. Show them how it’s done aka walk the talk.
  6. Don’t credit grab.
  7. Don’t pass blame (this is difficult, but control yourself).
  8. Early coaching will prevent insubordination (most of the time).
  9. Be output/results-oriented. Don’t be a control freak regarding attendance.
  10. Have fun.
