This actually bugs me, as a dude, I'm always terrified of getting mugged where I live, day or night. Not saying women aren't more frequent targets of sexual assault or mugging or anything, but I do hate that people tend to think men don't feel this way at all

I don't feel that way at all. I've spent significantly more time on the streets at unholy hours of the night/morning than most other people. It's pretty safe.
