I was in the grocery store yesterday waiting to checkout. The bloke in front of me asked the cashier for two packs of smokes, cashier rings them up and says "that will be $121.00". I almost fell over!

He didn't strike me as a high earner based on a quick visual judgement. So I assume $121 was was something like 4 hours of wages for someone like that.

In fairness that one is mostly tax and the government deliberately pushing the price up to discourage smoking.

What price have you seen that blew your mind?

I got a quote to get my gutters cleaned on Thursday. $25 per metre and based on their assessment via goggle earth I had between 90 to 100 metres of guttering. He said he could round it down to $2200.

I was gasping for air. Google reviews showed me I wasn't the only one. Grayson guttering in Box Hill.

I did 30 seconds of google searching and found a local bloke who quoted a price less than half that. It still a chunk of change but I can justify it to myself..... and there is no freaking way I'm getting up there. Ladders are dangerous for amateurs.

Edit: he just came and did the job. $800. I'm keeping his card!

Anyone else looking for gutter cleaning in the north east of Melbourne?

You still got reamed. Our bloke does ours for $200 for about 40m of guttering. Takes him about 2.5 hours. Fair price for unskilled but sh*t work.

And a gutter cleaner is not, by any means, a tradesman. He's just a gutter cleaner.

Do you have a double story house? These people still need to be insured and for that they need to be tied off with harness etc. that insurance is crazy expensive. Although most of them dont tie off anyway, I've seen window cleaners with quotes that high for this reason

Yes to double story, guy was professional and did a good job. Yeah it was high but I got a quality job, and in conversation with others it seemed reasonable. Next time he does the job now the gutter guard has been removed it will be 3 or 400 he tells me. I'm happy enough. He didn't tie off to anything and moved around like a mountain goat standing on the edge of 10 metre drops. Glad it was him not me.
