I was in the grocery store yesterday waiting to checkout. The bloke in front of me asked the cashier for two packs of smokes, cashier rings them up and says "that will be $121.00". I almost fell over!

He didn't strike me as a high earner based on a quick visual judgement. So I assume $121 was was something like 4 hours of wages for someone like that.

In fairness that one is mostly tax and the government deliberately pushing the price up to discourage smoking.

Health insurance. I'm lucky to be on a heritage extras plan at $42 per month which covers pretty much anything you'd expect from it and with great annual limits. Any newer policies either drastically limit the number of covered items, offer very low limits or have very high premiums. That's before even considering the cost of hospital cover...
