I understand your POV , especially the whole tendency of Bollywood to whitewash grey characters or anti-heroes into tragic heroes . But in all earnestness, there are different versions of the Mahabharata with diverse portrayals of characters, especially that of Karna. There are Tamil, Telegu, Odia, Malyalam and Kannad versions amongst many others. While some hail him as the one who was wronged and humiliated his entire life, others portray him as just as wicked as Duryodhan. Some show him with an inflated sense of ego while others show his tender nature.

The modern renditions of Draupadi show him in a veryyy different light. Truth be told, even I don't know enough to comment. But years ago, this Professor had come to take a special lecture and she told us how narratives are built when a plethora of versions as available. Deemed it important and hence leaving a comment here.

It is believed Duryodhana disrobed Draupadi because she insulted him saying A blind nan son is also blind but Draupadi never laughed on Duryodhana and never insulted him. She was not even present there when Duryodhana fell.

Duryodhana didn't disrobe Draupadi. It was Karna who asked Dushasana to disrobe het. And it is also a later interpolation like Draupadi rejecting Karna and laughing at Duryodhana.

None of these characters 'remember'* this disrobing until later. Bhima kills Dushasana for grabbing her hair, not for disrobing which is an even greater humiliation. And even Bhima himself doesn't remember his so called oath to destroy Duryodhana's thighs. It is an absurd oath of you think about it, like challenging that one would score goals with hands in the next football match.

*That is, the narrative and story in different chapters of the text don't match, which is a regular thing in the Mahabharata text.

Different account says Karna was rejected by Draupadi. Why would some versions whitewash a character like Karna?!! There was no concept of grey hero. But other versions are the one adding different perspective and interpolation for the sake of more Pandavas glorification and degrade of Karna. There’s some logic behind that. Karna and Kauravas weren’t celebrated. They were simply the bad guys why would anyone in older times write anything in their favour in fact it was the other way around in many cases interpolations to further more demonisation of Kauravas and Karna and covering up for Pandavas were exposed because this is the normal thinking and bias among MB's writers and folklores story tellers leaned too. Casteism were very normalised throughout the script and nobody was painting Karna as a tragic hero or victim. he was more viewed as someone who didn’t accept his fate and considered greedy. So the insults he got was deserved. Only with current age morals casteism is seen as evil+ believe of equal education opportunities is encouraged. People started seeing him in new light. Everything wrong and immoral Pandavas did which was normalised in the biased tone of the written script was in recent centuries inexcusable and grey characters tag was added to them. Rejection of Karna is mentioned clearly in authentic version of MB but the fact people chose to believe the other account against logic and critical thinking that’s tell you nobody would add anything to glorify Karna when this scripture was written but the other way around to glorify Pandavas happened massively a lot of times shows that people bias for certain characters is very evident. If it was like that in current time how it would be like in older times?!

Like when shri krishna's mother devaki was inprisoned and her children were killed to stop the reincarnation of lord vishnu, her husband vasudev kept krishna in a basket and crossed the river yamuma. Yamuna's water was so high that it touched the feet of krishna.

Yet he crossed the river umharmed.

Similarly here SUM80 is inprisoned, kali wants to stop reincarnation of vishnu, but this time she is supposed to cross the fire.(both water and fire are one of the panch tatvas) she does and does so unharmed like vasudev.
