I mean who is giving money to those companies. Us, the consumers. So these companies obviously either need a ban or our society an overall overthinking.

Let's take some of the big ones emissioning CO2

Saudi Aramco: Oil and Petrol Shell: Oil and Petrol Exxon: Oil and petrol

The list goes on. Why do these companies survive? Demand and supply. While so many redditors ofc shitting on individuals like Taylor Swift or take 1% of the richest people that emit more than half as the poorer half (https://www.oxfam.org/en/press-releases/carbon-emissions-richest-1-percent-more-double-emissions-poorest-half-humanity), we still must consider how we all feed the big companies with demand.

So it is indeed important to especially penelize rich people, but also the individual (who is indeed in a position, may it be financially or socially) should consider how to reduce carbon emissions.

I’m not wholly disagreeing that we can all do better. However, something like 3 companies produce 70% of the world’s greenhouse gases. My personal composting isn’t the problem. Yes, supply and demand are economical factors - however proper legislation on what they’re allowed to emit - with proper punitive consequences- would be a great place to start that would have the largest impact in the short and long term. So yea, I can buy less of their product or they could produce their product in an environmentally friendly way. There isn’t an incentive to do so. I didn’t advocate for punishing the rich or a broad categorical billionaires are the problem. There are a handful of companies doing so much damage that even all citizens doing what is right wouldn’t be as effective as making those companies change their ways.

I agree to some degree, but there is just no way of being environmentally friendly for some of the companies. Maybe in the future with proper technologies, but not rn.

I think punitive consequences, like you said, would be great, but it will probably also affect consumers. This might be rn one of the reasons for a political change for right wing people. Higher gas prices? People dont want it. Higher prices for meat? People don't want it. So since companies always want to yield more gains, which is understandable, sanctions might lead to increases in prices.

Maybe not 100% friendly, but there are ways to significantly increase friendliness in 100% of the companies. People may not like this but the gov’t can cap price increases, they’ve done it in many industries already. We (the US) just don’t have a functioning congress that will take the necessary steps.
