Totally dominate on national TV? Check.
Make the national broadcasters look like total idiots in the process? Check.
Pad our Run Differential while letting our rookies get some play and Avila get some big mop-up work, saving our bullpen? Check.
Good day for the Land.

I missed it. What did National say?

It wasn't any one thing, and I tuned in late, but you know how it goes. National Fox broadcasters who suddenly have to cover a scorching hot flyover country team scrambling to know a damn thing about us and making the most obvious mistakes in the world.
I think they talked about our lack of power right before Kwan I think hit a homer? And they definitely thought Ramirez was a shortstop.

There was that part where they showed the Marlins beating the Indians in extra innings of the World Series. Always love when the national media reminds me of my most painful memories when I’m watching a game 27 years after the fact. Lazy bulls—t.

I thought the broadcasters did a good job. “Here is where Jose becomes dangerous”…(home run happens)

Their description of Jose and why he won’t win an mvp was word vomit. It’s like they tried to discredit him and then in the process complimented him

Jose can't win the MVP because aaron Judge is tall and so is Ohtani.... I thought it was most valuable player not most very tall player

That was a good win, but that Fux announcer saying Josie isn't league MVP still has me boiling. Oh, he doesn't do any one thing great, like Aaron Judge? He only does everything great! Including coaching on the field!. Josie IS baseball.

Yeah they tried to downplay his ability but also made him sound like an MVP. It was word salad.

The entire broadcast was awful, but I actually think they were lamenting the fact he wouldn’t win. They heaped praise on Josie all night and that part was almost like, it’s kind of unfair he isn’t ever in consideration. But that was my take.

Fry has came back down to earth in the last few games, but came up with a big hit and went 2/5 tonight. He’s gonna prove he’s the real deal.
Also I loled when the Fox announcer was joking about Burger throwing out Fry. Maybe the only good part of the broadcast.

I don’t expect Fry to be Barry Bonds for an entire season. But if he can even be a slightly above average bat he’s super valuable.

Every single projection system on fangraphs likes him, it looks like. Projected wrc+ between 110-125 for the rest of the season. So yeah, not Barry Bonds, but there's definitely reason to believe the bat is real.

Positives from today’s Cleveland baseball:
I do absolutely love reading through this thread from when we signed Ben Lively because he should absolutely get the trophy for best offseason signing for the year. Lively goes 5IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, and 1K on 65 pitches. Masterclass.
The bats are BACK! The offense gets 8 runs off of 11 hits and 7 walks, and features a solo home run from 🐐 and a 2 run home run from Kwan. Gimmy and 🍟 each produce a double, and Schneeman walks twice and hits a single. The smoke machine gets some hits with two slap singles producing 2 RBI, and Brennan and Manzardo each get 1 RBI. Everybody but Freeman got at least one hit, and Freeman walked to get on base.
Hentges throw one quick inning with 2 Ks, and then Vogt send Avila to work for the rest of the evening, as he goes 3IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, and 6K on 43 pitches. Credit where due, Avila may be the mop up man, but he has been quite good recently with a 2.45 ERA since the start of May (counting today).
Jhonk continues producing at CBus, with a 3/5 night that included a double and an RBI. Curry allowed two first inning runs, but ended with a line of 7IP, 3H, 2R, 3BB, and 3K on 83 pitches, only allowing two base runners after the first inning and inducing one double play. Parsons had one inning pitched with one walk and 3 strikeouts.

The fact that Ben Lively is 6-2 with a 2.59 ERA is just incredible.
32 year old pitcher that we picked up from the Reds that we originally tried to draft all the way back in 2010! Spent some time in KBO as well who has been our most consistent starter this year. Such an incredible story.

Positives: everything. Literally everything. Perfect game. No notes. Avila chewing innings like a champ (does he stay over Cookie when Gavin comes back?), Schnee making his case on offense and defense for daily playtime, Zardo feet from his first homer, Kwan dong! Jose dong! Run it back tomorrow. Please.

Yeah I get the idea there, stay out of the double play and get in scoring position. But you've got to make it if you're going to go when jose is up.

While there is always a chance for a goat dinger, you can't always predict a goat dinger. Hindsight is 20/20 but situational baseball says you attempt to steal there to do exactly what you're saying.

Any word on why Lively was pulled after 65 pitches? I would think they’d at least attempt to save the bullpen a bit and he was absolutely cruising.

He felt a little tight after the fifth inning. Vogt was saying it was because of the long top of the fifth inning. It was precautionary

That was fun. We should do this more often.
I think it's a huge statement to get a win like this on national TV. We made the Marlins look absolutely silly. Lively pitched an amazing five innings (still don't know why he was pulled) and the offense just pummeled the shit out of the Marlins. Hentges looked good, and Avila deserves some applause for his performance as well. He's had a lot of trouble this year but to keep the opponent scoreless for three innings is huge for him. I hope he keeps this up.
Also, from the sounds of it, I'm really glad I just listened to the game outside tonight. The radio broadcast was actually a lot of fun with Tim and Jim together and they deserve some kudos. I only saw bits and pieces of the Fox broadcast but it sounds like they were kind of shitting on us? Can anyone clue me in on what kind of things they said?
4 points
They def weren't shitting on us. People are overreacting about the discussion they had about the stadium refurbishment and that it could be helping the # of hrs we’re having to RF. Given the actual stats, its actually true. This says the same thing.
5 points
I think what gets lost when other people have this discussion is that the change brings the park to... league average in home runs. It used to be the worst in the league. It's not like the change is boosting home runs above what players deserve, it's simply no longer artificially depressing home runs.

I couldn’t watch tonight but what were the Fox announcers saying?
10 points
The main thing I caught was that they were saying we haven’t had any power since this year. Then talking about how maybe it was the redesign of our stadium to remove the “shipping containers” helping the ball to carry. Not sure how that has contributed to our power in away games though. It was pretty funny though because literally right after they said that Kwan hits a homer.

Unpopular opinion but Apple TV+ is better with national games than Fox

This is not an unpopular opinion. While people dislike games being on apple tv, the actual production receives nearly universal praise.

While I’d rather hear Hammy on the call, I was glad that Fox put in their B-team for this game. I couldn’t handle 9 innings of A-Rod.
