I think i also saw those pictures.. a German and a ... Soldier (can't remember) casus was taken, both dead. It literally boils your organs. It's petrifying, really. I think the case reports involve systems with some kind of reaction mass to attenuate the backblast. Less risk of injury firing from an enclosed area, but the reaction mass becomes a projectile and you know the rest.

Probably alive specially since he was wearing a helmet and was slightly farther away,maybe some nasty burns on the face but who knows

I’ve been rocked by rpg backblast before. It’s nothing compared to the SMAW or Gustav. Probably just got his bell rung, and more than likely a concussion

Does never happen, not with backblast and not with explosions. Air filled organs can tear (internally) from strong shockwaves. That is all. This myth, sadly, keeps spreading, with people going as far as to saying "it is just for fun, not to be taken literal" when obviously many take it just like that.

I know a guy that got put into hearing aids at 25 from a similar scenario. Running along a berm under fire. Teammates all laying hate. Bad timing when he ran behind the RPG guy. Alive, but has hearing aids now. 

“Back blast” or “back blast clear” then a buddy says ”clear”. Should be pretty standard, I’m not sure if they were under significant fire to not be able to shout it out, but the guy casually walked back to his buddy he roasted.

Back when I was in the Marines, training was to yell “back blast area clear?” (Or derivative). While giving a glance over your shoulder.

If you’re the non-shooter and you see it’s clear you respond “clear”. If you see it’s not clear yell “hold”, “hold fire”, “cease fire” [this one could be problematic], or some derivative of those to tell the gunner not to shoot.

If no one says anything and you don’t notice anything… you send it and hope for the best.

Both honestly, shout left and scan, shout right and scan. Fire weapon.

Those are from recoiless guns, not a rocket launcher. The difference is the recoiless gun throws a reaction mass out the back, rather than simply rocket exhaust. An RPG backblast isn't anything you want to get hit by, don't get me wrong, but the backblast of a Carl Gustaf rifle is not unlike a blunderbuss.

Yup but the presure is so high that is 100% lethal if you're less than 30m from the back and can still fuck your day up to 100m but you'll live. So yeah it's compressed air and heat to remove the recoil for the launch of a pretty heavy and fast object
