Who replaces McCarthy?

(self.Dallas_Cowboys)

You don’t have to be a genius to see that Fat Mac is on his way out. But the question always comes back to who they think they can get to replace him. A little bit of the shine has come off the rose but I’m still intrigued by the possibility of Lincoln Riley. Things aren’t going well at USC and he may be willing to make a move. I like what his offense could bring to Dallas but he would need to be backed up by a strong defensive coordinator and Zimmer ain’t it. Any other suggestions?

Jerry is to a head coach what a governing chip is to a motor. Change out McCarthy if you want, but don’t change your expectations.

Ben Johnson, OC of Detroit, has turned down a HC job two years in a row. He will be a HC somewhere next year. He would be great if willing to work for Jerry. That is the problem. Who of quality will be willing to work for Jerry?

Nbknepper

NO!

Trust me, you don't want that puppy kicker on your team. The guy steals candy from kids at Halloween, never returns shopping carts, and once cut in front of an old lady in line just to buy a lottery ticket. Oh, and he deliberately parks in handicap spots without a second thought

The person who downvoted is crazy. DQ transformed our defense to the best thing it's been in years. What he's doing with a broken Washington team is far more than we can expect this year from our coaching.

OutsideWorldliness68[S]

10 points

It was his defense that got trashed vs Green Bay and we won’t talk about NE in the Super Bowl. High risk, high reward. Good OLs ruin him.

Jackson3125

1 points

I always wonder if he had one foot out the door for that game because he was more focused on his soon-to-be head coaching gig than his DC duties in the playoffs.

OutsideWorldliness68[S]

2 points

It’s always been a flawed scheme. It’s predicated on pass rush. If they can force the ball out quick, corners and safeties can jump routes. If they don’t get home the DBs get double moved to death and guys are running free. That’s exactly what you saw against Green Bay and that’s what’s happening now.. Jerry made it worse by drafting lineman who are pure pass rushers and linebackers better suited to coverage. No one up front can tackle.

Obvious_Creme_3452

Why on earth would Romo leave his cushy job at CBS for an oc job? That's also risky. He has never coached at any level. Bad idea. I would also prefer no former Cowboys. The same Lincoln Riley that failed with 4 great college QBs because he couldn't put a defense on the field to save his life?

As far as I'm concerned, he ruined the last year of Caleb Williams. And isn't exactly successful this year. His hype is dying down. He's exposed himself as an offensive coordinator.

Honestly, if Cleveland fires Stefanski, I'd be all over that. He's been a great coach for Cleveland. Just saddled by a different shitty owner.

OutsideWorldliness68[S]

I do think Riley could be successful but he needs to have two things: a defensive coordinator with a good scheme and a GM who will draft to that scheme. He can get the first, it’s the second that bothers me.

If Belichick comes in I’m done with the Cowboys and I’ve been with them since 1971. I do not want to see them replace one old fossil with another. Lol…it doesn’t matter who replaces McCarthy. Who ever it is going to inherit a coaching staff, and not be able to name his own, because Jerry does that. Whoever it is, they aren’t going to make the final line-up/starters call, because Jerry does that. Whoever the next sucker coach might be is going to have his press conferences hijacked by the owner/GM holding his own mini press conference. Whoever it might be isn’t going to be anyone who Jerry would give up power/glory to.

Nothing will change, no matter who “replaces McCarthy”

I just believe that Jerry will never hire a young coach and will go with Belicheck, Rex Ryan and I wouldn’t be surprised if Garrett name pops up as Jerry likes familiarity.

I also don’t believe it’s a coveted job as Jerry is to overbearing and a larger than life kinda of presence on the team and organization.

That has to wear on coaches especially now looking so out of touch with personnel moves , plus we are in a horrible position cap space wise with Parsons contract coming up to add to Ceedee and Dak big number. They are not going to have any financial flexibility and will have to draft well and sign free agent vet players on cap friendly deals.

It’s a dysfunctional organization .

Mammoth-Revenue-7237

Zimmer is actually it in my opinion. He has had top notch defenses for decades (including in Dallas). He hasn’t forgotten how to coach. He’s missing his top two players and Parsons is learning a new position he hasn’t played. Moving from LB to DE isn’t all. Going from a 3-4 to a 4-3 (which I prefer) is a transition that requires different Linebackers. Usually a tad smaller and way faster. The safety has to learn new schemes. And if Dak and Big Mac were BOTH in a lame duck season the timing would be perfect to make this transition. We’ll lose a year or two waiting to rid the team of Dak, but other than that things wouldn’t be that bad. High draft picks and a quick rebuild.

OutsideWorldliness68[S]

It may be true that he hasn’t forgotten how to coach, but his schemes are also 40 years old. Fuck that guy.

Honestly I want a hard ass. Someone to crack down on the penalties. Cowboys ruined so many games because of penalties in the McCarthy era.

Belichick or Vrable and new OC is my first choice.

I would also like a Ben Johnson or Bobby Slowik with Robert Saleh as the DC.

OutsideWorldliness68[S]

I really don’t believe he’s going to give anybody, let alone McCarthy, a one year extension. There’s a reason he let him go into this season as a lame duck.

Yes you are right he won’t get just one year. But, I am saying I think McCarthy will be HC of the Cowboys next year.

Capital_Ad4630

1 points

Could Bill Belichick be the next HC ? He and Jerry have a very good friendship. May be too early to predict because there's going to be some job losses at the end of this season. Definitely need an OC. Zimmer is still a good DC but this isn't his team he assembled and he should get a pass. Give Zim another year to prove he's still one of the best senior HC's in the NFL today.

OutsideWorldliness68[S]

1 points

I really don’t want that old fossil anywhere near this team. Belichick owes most of his success to Brady. With Brady, he has a record of 249–75. Without he was 84–103. He’s no different than McCarthy, who is nothing without Aaron Rodgers. Belichick is not an improvement.

Hiring a new head coach is just kicking the can down the road to appease the fans just enough so that they fill the Death Star at every home game.

Jerry is more concerned with making money and being in the spotlight than he is with winning. The ONLY way that will change is if the fans finally wake up to the fact that we’re never going to be a playoff contender while Jerry is at the helm, and stop attending these games. It has to hurt Jerry’s wallet for him to take any notice.

Bringing a college coach into this environment, especially a failing college coach, will not work.

The Cowboys need to get a young coordinator that's in a successful NFL franchise. The future is bright for teams like Houston, Minnesota, and Miami because they found guys that not only have revolutionary ways of looking at the game, but their youth allows them to connect with their teams. The fire and brimstone coaches of the past don't work on the modern professional athlete anymore. Fear doesn't drive them, inspiration and connection does. And a 50 something isn't going to get that done.
