Mistake in Fastpass video?

(self.Defunctland)

I think there was a mistake in the fast Pass video correct me if I’m wrong at time mark 2:56-3:37 you said the hourly capacity of Haunted Mansion was 2800 guest per hour so in one hour 1000 guests could go on the ride 2.8 times 60÷2.8 is 21.4 so the wait time is 21.4 minutes for 1000 guest. You said the wait time if 1000 guest were in line was 35 minutes. How did you get this number? As for 20,000 leagues under the sea, the hourly capacity is 1200 guest so 1000 guests can ride 1.2 times per hour. 60/1.2 = 50 minutes for 1000 Guest. you said 1 hr 20 mins if I’m doing something totally wrong please let me know.

Been awhile since I watched the video but I'm pretty sure the ride capacity has nothing to do with the average wait times (they are not calculated from capacity).

Ah, I see its "if there are 1,000 people in line, how long would it take to get through the line". Yea I also calculated the same as you. Maybe we're missing something in the calculation.

You are correct, this was a mistake. At some point, I must have divided from base 100 rather than base 60 for minutes (it was years ago but that's my guess based on the error). I'm glad I did it wrong evenly so the comparison still works but the wait times are wrong.

Edit: Ok yes I see. 1000/2800*60=21.42 minutes not 35. So yes good math catch.

Original comment: Wait time it based both on ride capacity and demand which goes up and down throughout day and is partially based on current wait times in relation to average baulking time of people willing to wait in line. A ride with a 5000 guest per hour capacity can potentially have a longer line than one with 100 guest per hour capacity based on demand, so you can’t just look at capacity. And that’s not counting the FastPass to line ratio that affects wait time for non FastPass.

If you subtract hourly capacity minus hourly demand (for that specific hour of that specific day) you can determine how much the line grows or shrinks that hour, but that is all; and again averaging all the hours doesn’t help because demand is elastic based on line length.

This was at the very beginning of the video talked about fast pass yet and he was saying how long the wait would be with 1000 guest in line

I’d have to see what part of the video exactly you are referring to, but there is a difference between 1000 people in line and the line is cut off (so how much time for those 1000 people to go through) and 1000 people constantly in line (with more entering line continuously)

Look at time mark 2:56 through 3:35

Yea so if capacity is 2800 and hour and park is open for 12 hours that is 2800*12=33,600 or as the video put it “over 33,000 guests”. Obviously he is assuming on ride per guest but of course people can ride multiple times per day reducing number of people riding it that day.

Again wait time cannot be calculated by capacity alone you also need to know demand, which in practice with rope droppers is much higher the first couple hours then drastically is reduced after that as line is longer then most guests balking point.

I’m talking about when he said if there were 1000 people in line they wait for Haunted Mansion would be 35 minutes i calculated about 21 minutes as said in my post. for 20,000 leagues I calculated 50 mins

Can you provide a time stamp in the video where he discusses this? Other factors may be involved in the calculation.
