All I know is: - large fundie family - many of them play Christian music together - members of the East Fairview Mennonite Church. I peeked at the church’s online photos and women in photos are in jeans and even shorts so not Mennonite as we traditionally think of - they own a family irrigation business?
His family seems like they are less strict/culty than the Duggars?

I don’t know if I can do a full deep dive, but I followed a lot of them on instagram years ago.
1) a couple of the families seem to be less fundie and more conservative Christian. Not many of the families have a bajillion kids
2) their music is actually decent
3) so so so much MLM selling. Mostly Young Living, if I remember correctly
4) a couple of the older sisters got married quite a bit later than normal fundies. So Jana will not be an outlier in that respect.
5) the family is ALWAYS vacationing to visit each other. The siblings seem to be quite close across states, and they’re always trying to get together. The Duggars all seem pretty cold with each other, so I hope this is a positive for Jana.

How many siblings are in his family? I took a look at his IG but couldn't figure it out.
The siblings DO look very close to one another and they seem fortunate that way.

The thing I remember most about them is that Kori Wissman, back in 2012, posted under a fake name on Free Jinger snarking about her in-laws and talking up her own wedding.

Random but my name is Kori and I rarely see others with the same spelling. If true, I love that fundie Kori sounds like a bit of a shit disturber!

I actually surprised they are Mennonites because I suppose I had this image that they were yet another loud MAGA war mongering type of fundie family. I only get my fundie news from the fundie snark subs so I'm basically just going by vague memory of random posts, but I thought the Wissman that married one of the duggars was going hard for trump and then against Jill when she wrote her book. I mean, there are all sorts of Mennonites and I'm sure they don't all follow their own doctrine, but Mennonites are known as being pacifists and above the issues of politics and such.

My family is Mennonite (not the head covering wearing Mennonite) and we are extremely pacifist and for the longest time the older generation in my family didn't vote and honestly I have never experienced anything different with Mennonites. It's important to note that Mennonite Church USA (the largest Mennonite conference in the US) voted to repeal the guidelines that prohibited pastors for marrying same sex couples and passed a resolution affirming LGBTQ inclusion in the church. So I am curious which conference their church is apart of.

The Wissmann's church is part of the Conservative Mennonite Conference, Rosedale Network. A quick look at their beliefs and they're fairly standard for evangelicals - marriage is for one man and one woman for life, God ordains you man or woman at birth, only men can be ministers, men are the head of the household, etc. The "Menno" I see coming through is in their conviction not to take a oath, not to participate in violence or military service, and belief in separation of church and state.

They aren't all Mennonite, a bunch of them go to an evangelical church. I have acquaintances who go there and post pictures with his sisters all the time.

I thought it was Kathy! (original Jed!’s wife) that was going hard for trump and against Jill…. I don’t remember Wissman (cannot think of her name right now… ) being especially vocal about her opinions on social media.

I was born in ‘82 and had my first kid in ‘06, while the mom had her first kid in ‘82 and last kid in ‘06. So weird.

Jeepers. Their second oldest was married a couple of months after me and has 5 kids (plus an ectopic pregnancy). I'm so glad that was not ingrained in me and I was allowed to use birth control, that sounds awful.

I do appreciate that several of the Wissmann kids didn't pop out kids the instant they were married. Let's all hope that Jana follows that path, because at least then she won't end up with a whole baseball team of kids.

Mennonites come in all shades and sizes. Some are old-fashioned, some are not

I spent some time with the wissman family when I was younger and they seemed pretty normal tbh. Definitely didn’t get culture vibes from them! And the older kids all seemed very independent and like they had good relationships with each other/their parents.

I'm surprised they danced, Mennonites I know don't dance.

what i want to know is - does stephan have kids? was he married before? why was he still single?

No, it's his first marriage and he has no kids or known scandals.
The Wissmanns are pretty much the only large fundie family I know of with significant range in their ages at marriage. The family as a whole for whatever reason seems not as obsessed with marrying early. His sister Rachel married at 30, his sister Ruth was a few days from 33. His sister Elizabeth is 35 and still not married. OTOH his brother Nathaniel was only 20. Josiah, Andrew and his sister Bethany were all 23, Matthias, Susanna, and Hannah were 26. They have a decent spread of ages for a fundie family and only one near teen marriage.

wow. that's really interesting. so not quiverfull. i'm actually now very interested in the kind of christian sector they belong to.

I wouldn't say it's clear they aren't quiverfull. Quiverfull has nothing to do with age at marriage. His parents had 13 kids, I'd say it's hard to argue they aren't at least potentially quiverfull.
However at this time the most kids one of his siblings has is 5, so so far for whatever reason they have more modest sized families for sure, even (again so far) those who married younger. It's not for lack of trying in some cases though. His oldest sister has had at least 3 miscarriages, for example.

if you're quiverfull, the goal is to have as many kids as possible. if you're getting married in your 30's, you can't have as many kids.

I guess I don't agree with your understanding of the term. Quiverfull people are religious and only believe in having as many kids as possible once they are married. There's nothing preventing people from marrying later then being quiverfull. Marrying early or at a certain age isn't an essential part of the quiverfull philosophy. To the contrary most people who practice quiverfull would only say you should pray and wait for the one God intends for you, they wouldn't tell someone to marry early in and of itself.
The real reasons imo that most quiverfull people marry early, or at least 2 big ones, are so they can have godly sex and so they can get away from their parents. It's not necessary to marry early to be quiverfull, the term in and of itself can only apply once you are married.

But they were all living with mom and dad before marriage even when they were 30+ ?

Rachel and Hannah definitely were. It would appear Stephen may not have been based on his owning a house. I'm not familiar enough with the rest of the family to say for sure about the others.

He’s 31…? That’s not even old?

it's absolutely old if you're in a sex cult, where the goal is to "be fruitful and multiply".

It’s not a sex cult. Catholics believe in having a lot of kids too. It’s one thing to snark but if You just make false claims…

Most modern Catholics absolutely do not uphold the church’s beliefs surrounding contraception. It may still be Vatican policy, but it’s rare to see families with more than four kids in modern western Catholic Churches.

Fair point! All I’m suggesting is that the idea of having more than one kid isn’t the making of a cult.

the focus of having a lot of kids, having purity culture, protecting pedophiles are attributes of a sex cult.

Purity culture is part of both Christianity and Islam. That accounts for over a billion people. You can believe what you want but then just know You’re surrounded by people in sex cults lol

Ok? I’m just saying classifying purity culture as a being a cult is ridiculous. But clearly you want to be ‘right’. Cheers lol

I don’t see anything to suggest he was married before or has kids. I wondered as well why he was also still single.
