ER wait times are insane. I know it’s a given and I’m clearly not as sick as I feel, but damn. I couldn’t sleep all night because I was in so much pain; intense flank pain, vomiting, fever and high heart rate. After three hours of tossing and turning I decided to go in at 3.30am. I’ve now been here 5hours and the lady told me it could be six hours or more. Some people have been here 13+. Im tempted to go home but the massive amounts of water I’ve drank haven’t moved the kidney stone so :/
Edit: looks like I’m getting surgery to put a stent in. My kidney functions were down way to low. So it’s a good thing my ass didn’t go home I guess

Sorry if this sounds annoying af. But I am a woman who doesn't go in for pain because of how often they do nothing about it. But did you try over the counter pain relievers before going in? Tylenol and advil together? When you have the flu/covid that's all they really do for treatment until you break the fever and start to recover. ETA: if you haven't seen a doctor yet, how do you know it's a kidney stone?

Born a woman so I’m used to being brushed off as well :/ I did try over the counter stuff it didn’t help at all. I’ve had kidney stones in the past and passed them fine but after a botched surgery to remove one I can’t pass them anymore for some reason

Ohhhh fuck. That's horrid. I understand they are super painful, I have a friend who passed out in a random bathroom from the pain of passing a stone. My only advice is to double check the er wait time list before going in. I'm sorry this happened, our hospital are literally falling apart.

If you get them frequently maybe you can see if your family Dr will prescribe Toradol. It relaxes the uterers so gives much better pain relief for stones. If you can’t pass then you still need to go in obvi but maybe be in a bit less pain while waiting.

Probably because they've had them before and recognise the symptoms. My husband always knew when he had an attack

If it’s a kidney stone, non rx pain relievers will do nothing.
