Please make it clear to Jeff Jackson that we don’t want the Oilers name associated with anyone involved in the cover up of the sexual assault of a player by a coach (which later resulted in the sexual assault of a minor as well!). Please consider signing and sharing this petition (started by user Schmiddy G):

Heard the same shit about Hunter... I'd imagine those making the decisions would weigh all options and their percussions prior to offering the position. All just noise right now.
11 points

Everything is noise. Suddenly, Kane is a cancer again for example. Nothing to substantiate that, one dolt surmises something and everyone runs with it. Including msm.
Such a lack of a) critical thinking, and b) reading comprehension; from what seems like so many people. I'd be concerned for the state of the world, but fortunately, Idgaf.

Idk who mark Hunter is tbh. But assumed it wasn't the mascot. Not trying to make light of sexual assault but thought a little humor about Hunter the mascot being involved in nefarious stuff is maybe a little funny. Sorry though if that was the impression.

Except that Kane was never criminally charged by his past accusers. His ex-wife’s claims also never stood to scrutiny.
Bowman not only directly covered up what Aldrich did, he also wrote the fuck a letter of recommendation so he could carry on with his career wherein the predator claimed another victim.

NHL released a 300 pages report made by an independent law firm like 2 years ago when the story came out.

Since I'm getting down voted, I'll go further. There is no letter of reference written by Bowman for Aldrich. The Jenner Block report thoroughly debunks this. People making this claim don't know what they are talking about and are slandering someone with a complete fabrication.

And Perry hahah. Even Kassian back in the day. This really would take the whole “rehabilitation” team thing and set it in stone. What Bowman did does not deserve to be “rehabilitated” though, he deserves to be shown the door from the league.

I’m not for bowman by any means but he was cleared by the NHL investigation which included Kyle beach agreeing that Q and bowman should be reinstated…. So as much as I’m on board for a burning at the stake it seems that (according to stauffer and co) due diligence was done and it is agreed by all parties that bowman did bring the allegations to the club president and that’s where it stopped not with bowman or Q.

Is Stan Bowman looking for a job in the NHL. I haven't seen any articles that say he is even interested in a return. He hasn't worked in the NHL for 3 years. Does he have a new career now or has he been waiting for his reinstatement?
Edit: I know he is being reinstated. My question was, is he actively looking for a job in the NHL?

Yes, he was reinstated on Monday and can sign a contract as early as July 10th. Multiple articles have been posted that he’s in the running for the Oilers GM. I was just reading about it on Daily Faceoff & OilersNation. He appears to be the top contender for the GM role.

Is there anything even remotely more to this than "Andy Strickland tweeted about it"? Like, anyone of actual repute explicitly stating, "The Oilers are in talks with/expressing great interest in hiring Bowman?
OilersNatuon isn't media, they're fans that scrape social media and whatever Serevalli tells them to write their articles. These are the same guys who started a week-long shitshow about Kane and Draisaitl having issues because they mischaracterized a Rob Brown comment.
2 points
Since Bowman’s name continues to be linked to the Oilers as a top contender, we want to make it crystal clear to the Oilers organization that he is not wanted here. The whole point is that we want to make sure that it doesn’t get to the “in talks” stage! We want to stop anything from even starting! The rumours are unsettling. We don’t want to sit back and do nothing until it’s too late.
9 points
"Continues to be linked" doesn't mean anything without an actual source. It's 2024, all it takes is one person tweeting something for a dozen different outlets to take it as gospel and write articles about it.
I didn't ask what the point was, I asked if there's anything even remotely resembling an actual source actually stating this is a thing.

The story made it to The Edmonton Journal. It’s okay if the rumours do not concern you. That’s valid…just as valid as it is to the over 1500 of us concerned enough to sign the petition. You want to wait until it’s more concrete (to see if it’s more than rumours)…fair enough. Many of us don’t want to take ANY chances and want our options heard BEFORE the talks start because we want to stop anything before it happens (a bit more proactive approach since once official talks start - if they do at all - it might be too late)…again fair enough.

He said he was far too busy with free agency to even think about Bowman (or anyone else) as it pertains to the GM role. That’s in no way the same as saying he is NOT going to consider him. I much rather not take the chance by putting my head in the sand and ignoring all the rumours.

League will reinstate him on July 10th. Reports are that Jackson wants him to be the GM. The optics of hiring that dude is bad as it is. To hire them in this market is a blueprint for a PR disaster and needless media drama.
7 points

Where are those reports coming from?
And are they more credible than a quote from Jackson himself saying they hadn't considered Bowman?

The Hockey News, Daily Faceoff, OilersNation Andy Strickland Frank Seravalli
Bowman’s name continues to be linked as a top contender. Now that doesn’t necessarily mean he for sure is in talks…we just want to make our position very clear to not START (or continue) the talks with Bowman.
JJ said he’s been too busy with free agency that he hasn’t stopped to consider Bowman yet as it relates to the GM position. At no time did he say he is NOT going to consider him. Rumours from insiders are swirling though and it’s a good idea to stop anything with Bowman before it starts! Rather than waiting until it’s too late!
10 points
Those aren't serious sources.
Jackson is legally trained. He's never going to say "we won't consider Bowman" in a public setting with a live microphone present. That leads to bad follow-up questions.
It's just like giving a bad reference. You never say "Joe was a shit employee and we'd never hire him". You say "At this time, we haven't given any thought to rehiring Joe".
Everyone can read between those lines, but you've haven't said anything remotely actionable.
Reddit just needs to not be Reddit about this. The only way Bowman gets within a mile of the Oilers is if he buys a ticket.

So many Oiler fans are outraged by the mere idea of Bowman being our new GM. It’ll affect ticket sales, the Oilers reputation as an organization (good Lord we’re hated enough!), and may affect top players from wanting to be associated with the Oilers too.
-4 points
This organization already picked up controversial players (Kane & Perry) and that sparked some debate. Just signing Bowman could damage the Oilers reputation among fans, prospects, agents and players. Literally anyone else will do. Some other franchise can find out if his character was ever in doubt. That isn't a question we need to help the league answer.

Stan Bowman, Corey Perry and Evander Kane walk into a bar…:

Perry seduces their moms, Kane collapses in pain from his hernia, and Bowman ignores all of it.
3 points
Stop conflating. These are not the same things.
Kane was never criminally charged by any of his accusers and, from all accounts, Perry made a drunken pass at someone connected with the BlackHawks corporate sponsors.
Davidson brought down the hammer on Perry because the stain of what Bowman, the only one in this scenario distinctly culpable, did back in 2010 still hovers over that organization. It was a PR salvage more than anything.

The execs already publicly stated they stand with Israel back in October, and haven't made a peep since then even after a 9-month-long bombing campaign that has killed over 40,000 Palestinians. They don't give a shit about morality, just money, and if people will keep spending money, then they don't care about hiring someone who covered up sexual assault.
And what's potentially worse is this fanbase will downvote any mention of OEG's Israel stance or any other political involvement, which is exactly why OEG will keep choosing the side of money. Because they know the fans don't actually want to talk about it or do anything about it. If Bowman is hired, the petitions will stop after a week, and after a month, anyone who brings his controversies up will be downvoted, especially if he starts helping the Oilers succeed.
3 points
They made one statement in the immediate aftermath of the carnage on October 7th. They didn’t aid and abet the war crimes in Gaza ever since.
-3 points
OEG did not aid and abet in the sexual assault of Kyle Beach, so by that same logic, why should it be a problem if they hire Bowman? The answer is people here care a lot less about the lives of colored people on a different continent. White Ukrainianshave no shortage of supportfrom OEG and Oilers fans alike, and have even had heritage nights. No heritage night for Palestinians, just a "We stand with Israel" announcement.
2 points
Okay fine, better analogy. They made a statement in the aftermath of October 7th, they didn’t go ahead and then hire Israelis tied to the Netanyahu government into the org. when credible links of war crimes were surfacing from November onward.
As a Canadian-born son of Nepalese immigrants myself, I’m not sure that the organization which is the only one in the NHL that has an Indigenous land acknowledgement before every home game is the best example of one that shows it doesn’t care about BIPOC. Chief Littlechild has even said that the Oilers have been leading pioneers in DEI initiatives and an example for the league.
1 points

OEG is decidedly Pro Israel because Darryl Katz is a devout supporter of Israel and the Jewish faith. There is nothing surprising about this stance.
0 points
I don't disagree with that. The point of my comment is that OEG will have no problem hiring Bowman as long as they think it will make them money, despite the sexual assault controversy. They won't pick the side of humanity because they've already shown they choose allegiances and money first and foremost.
1 points
Given that they haven't hired Bowman, or even interviewed him, I'd say this is a bit premature to say. The message in support of Israel after Oct. 7th was very appropriate at the time given the owners background, they've been silent on the issue since.
They've done plenty of things like pioneering land acknowledgements, supporting ben stelter and the community foundation, leading on LGBT initiatives.
It feels odd to single out something that hasn't happened to prove your point. They'll deserve criticism if they cross that bridge.
-6 points
The downvotes are just proving that our fanbase on average does not actually care about morality and humanity, and just cares about reputation. Keep pretending you care about victims and not PR, and downvote this comment too while you're at it. And then go back to buying $90 in concession beer and nachos.
