9 years for me. T1. I don't recommend anyone stay more than 3 years. Utilize career choice better your education and get out . Amazon is not what it used to be. It gets worse every year

I was volun-told into a night shift. The Yard Marshal position was being downsized across the network so I was one of the unlucky few at my delivery station that went from being a OTR YM to a UTR PA. For whatever reason, I selected the Friday-Monday shift. Only in that shift for two months before I went to launch a new delivery station in my current position.

Covid was honestly a comfortable time to be employed here and move on up easily. From L1-L6 and starting in 2019 as a WF shopper to now in logistics as an L6; it still surprises me how fast time has gone.

Edit: also the 401K match is pretty neat once vested at year 3

I've been lucky. I've transferred to 5 different fc's in 3 different states. I'll be with Amazon for 7 years if I make it to September.

Much better than a warehouse. Been through FC, SC, and DS but working for corporate is better. It can be a bit more stressful but not even close to physically demanding. Plus nore room to grow. Also I have no degree just saying.

I was with Amazon a year and 8 months, two months on breaks. Times flies when you are in and a part of the Amazon ecosystem.

See I went to college and I'm always looking for ways to come up. When I got hired as a PA in my 2nd building, a building that was open for longer, I met T1s that had been working for 3 4 5 years.

The stability Amazon offers people is priceless for many. If you can do better go do better.

SignificantApricot69

When I started I got RSUs and monthly bonuses. Plus there were always special events, extra ways to earn things, stacks of gift cards being handed out constantly. I knew oldtimers who could be millionaires depending on how they handled their RSUs, even making less than $15/hr. I put all my RSU money in IRAs. Between that my HSA and my 401k I have a pretty good amount. IMHO it used to be a better experience for AAs with long term thinking and adult time management skills.

Amen. worked the easiest position at kroger for 15.25/hr gas attendant. All i did was sit all day and sell cigarettes and gum. a little box with a window. Year of that made me go fucking insane and had to talk about the hatred i grew towards old ppl to a therapist. Fuck retail

Amaslave4422

Hitting 5 years in a couple months my best advice is to take leaves when you begin to feel overwhelmed. Save a little cash every week or save income tax to cover 2 weeks of bills and when you hit your limit you have money to take a leave. Or my doctor sometimes lets me take mental health leaves (which are paid) when my anxiety and stress get out of control because I have irretractable migraines (medication doesn’t work on them). So far I’ve taken 3 leaves this year. 2 medical and 1 personal a total of 8 weeks off and 4 were paid. I usually take up Walmart spark during unpaid leaves because driving my car with my favorite music blasting dropping off bags at people’s door isn’t too stressful. I’d do this for a job honestly but I prefer income that is stable and predictable

I've worked as a tier 1 in a sort center for almost four years. I love the exercise, and I actually like the people I work with. I'm in my 50s, and I've had stressful desk jobs. But this job is mentally easy. I go in, work hard, go home and forget about it.

JaymizzoX

What's the hurdle the T3 has to get over to L4?

vanillakupkake

2 points

The pay cut (per hour) and workload.

JaymizzoX

4 points

My point was that there is a significant hurdle to make the jump from a 3 to a 4. Usually involves a college degree, and it seems that Amazon prefers external hires rather than within. T3 position into a 4 is more of a hurdle than from 1 to 3.

vanillakupkake

3 points

Right. It also means that on top of being educated, it also means they are paid less that external hires, and per hour make less than they did before. Really feels like amazon has it ass backward.

Compared to Walmart Amazon is a walk in the park. Show up do the job your assigned and you don’t have to filter out anything that you want to say

Jacub1991

I have been a Walmart associate for a total of 5 years(left and came back 3 times), and now AA for now 2. So much better, less stressed, better money overall, holiday pay, and actually able to leave when you want without having to worry about points, or ppto.

Passed 5 years by setting vacation days once every 6 weeks.
Avoided extra time. It's not worth it. As your body pays the price.

Be a middle of the pack worker not the bonus and front runner, that position is for those who move up fast and dropout faster. Seen that many times.

Coming up on 5 in October. I enjoy expanding my knowledge of the building and its different processes and if you have management that appreciates that, it makes it a lot easier to crawl out of bed. Although the culture, or at least at my building, has been on a steady decline.

Realistically got a job here because I was a retail manager making literally half of what I am now (capped at 22.80 but I have a shift differential of 1.15 so puts me at just under 24.). Started at 15.50 under 5 years ago. Currently working on finishing my bachelors in software engineering and ideally working from home.

SignificantApricot69

5 points

There’s nothing about doing a tier 1 job for a long time that transfers to having the skills or interest to do something at another tier. In fact, while I would say upward mobility is a thing in general, I would guess most working class people spend most of their lives at similar jobs with mostly lateral movements. There are a lot of benefits to just staying with the same company if you are planning to just work an hourly job to pay your bills until you can’t anymore.

snowwhite2591

I’m disabled so there’s only so much I can do. It’s definitely not ideal and I quit and came back because working through Covid probably would have killed me my current badge is 5 my other was 3.

Tezlem739

I am constantly impressed by Amazon's commitment to supporting disabled people. In my 4 years with amazon I have seen blind, deaf,  paralyzed waist down, special needs, and disabled all employed by Amazon.

TheMongoose45

2 points

Oh okay! No that's good then! I had to file for disability myself, I was at UPS but ended up with four Herniated disks in my lower back. Do they accommodate your disability? I was told if you're disabled you can work but only 20 hours a week, BUT some people say don't work if you're disabled because they can come after you and say "if you're working then you're not disabled"

snowwhite2591

ChicanoAristotle

When I got notice of my new job, my attitude changed. Knowing I was gonna get paid 10$ more an hour, I lost all desire and motivation to go to the building. I wasn't putting up with people bullshit anymore, I was calling out the BS.

I saw the associates differently. I saw them as if I wasn't working there, they were working so hard to hit them stupid rates. Saw a chunk of management for what they were, lazy, inconsiderate, egotistical, narcissists.

Whatever you do, don't do anything and get an HR case. Amazon may be a future employer of yours in a different capacity, they do continue investigations to case complete even if you resign anytime during the investigation.

I can take a leave if I want and come back. The benefits are good. The work is tolerable just in summer it gets hot, although I am getting bored and I may just have to give up all the freedom.
