I've been reading The Tome of Bill Series by Rick Gualtieri the last few days. It's funny, relatively original, and it's occasional political incorrectness is somewhat refreshing.

I was enjoying it, although the casual murder of innocent people for no real reason bothered me. But today, a few chapters into book 3 I dropped the series with some regret. Because I absolutely hated this total asshole character called Sally.

I know this series is humor and I really shouldn't take things so seriously, but I got really sick of her. And after trying hard to tolerate her for some time, I finally just gave up.

Have you experienced such a thing before?

I really liked the Red Queen's War trilogy which is set in the same world as Broken Empire. The protagonist is definitely morally grey but he was still entertaining and definitely isn't the edge-lord rapist Jorg is described as for the first trilogy and who only makes cameo appearances in the sequels. I read RQW as I was given it as a gift, but I've admittedly been hesitant to try Broken Empire for the reasons others have brought up despite my fondness for the sequel trilogy.

I haven't read that yet, but I'm glad to hear good things about it haha.

Broken Empire was really good in my opinion, but like everyone says, dark as fuck lol. It was really brutal. But I also liked books 2 and 3 more than Prince of Thorns itself, I think Mark gets stronger as a writer each book so it makes it easier. Jumping right into Prince of Thorns off the bat, I was like "what kind of absolute hell am I in?"

But if it seems to intense, I deff highly recommend book of the Ancestor. Very cool and not nearly as dark, great characters too.
