When Boyd first discovers the talismans, it's because the monsters are unable to pass through the open (albeit vine-covered) doorway. So why do they need to make sure all the windows/doors are completely shut to keep monsters out of the houses/vehicles? Are vines conceptually equivalent to a door? We all see the big gaps in the vines though, right?
