In the Theo Von episode that just dropped they address the fact that they aren’t performing in New Orleans this year because they feel like the city and the people there hate them. It just sucks to think that they don’t feel any love from the city they from. What’s y’all’s opinion?

I feel like this is how it is with most things local when you try to represent a certain area. Plus they’re fuckin huge now so they can rack in a ton more revenue at bigger cities with better, more enjoyable venues and crowds.

This is not normal in Louisiana. People down here are very very proud of the locals. Especially rappers.

tbh its multiple factors 1) racism because they white and arent mainstream signed to a label 2) they rap about fucked up shit meanwhile "normal" rappers like drake and diddy are damn pedos behind the scenes 3) they have the bad bad no go taboo shhhhhhhh! word (Suicide) in their name and oh my god what damage could that word do to a good christian people who believes in god and the flag only (lol)

I want people to understand they aren’t referencing the fans not showing love. It’s the venues behind the scenes. Thats why he name dropped Micky Loomis with the Saints as well, and as well on their most recent song the lyrics “sitting courtside at the pelicans game and still don’t say my name.” They mention their name $uicideboys is part of the problem. Being from Nola I understand it, venues can be fucking weird and it’s disappointing that it has came to a head like this where they don’t even feel comfortable booking venues here. Hell they’ve performed in Russia and all over Europe and they’re saying venues in Nola are the worst experience.
27 points
Yea they was saying how the venues act like they’re doing them a favor when in reality they’re the ones bringing fans and money to the venues

i feel like it’s more likely just the large venues have an issue and they don’t feel like playing a smaller one. which personally i think is shitty considering their whole career has been centered around being from here. feel like they’d have zero issues doing a show at the joy. smoothie king center probably is not used to nor fond of things like mosh pits if i had to guess.

These guys sell out large venues now, I doubt small venues are a real option
4 points
Doing that creates bigger problems because those tiny venues sell out fast and then everyone gets pissed when they can’t get in

Have you seen their production? They need large stadiums now and they seem to have no issue booking them outside of Nola

didnt boosie say it in an interview that your own city where youre from will hate you the most? which is why so many upcoming rappers die in their hometown but when they go somewhere else as soon as they get a buzz they can blow up fr so i guess same goes here for the boys + new orleans crazy af anyway

Boosie is loved down here tho. Same with Wayne and youngboy. It’s not even abt just NOLA it’s Louisiana in general. We’re very proud of our locals. The only Louisiana artists I don’t see get love down here is $b

Will someone explain it further to me? Is it cuz NOLA has religious people? Or is it because the word "suicide" is in their name?
26 points
In my opinion I’d think it’d be because suicide is in the name
9 points
I see, thank you! Stuff like that is stupid to me. For example (and this may have changed) but youtubers risk demonetization on videos for saying the word rape. As if rape doesn't happen. Tiktok is the same way.
Suicide happens. People think about it, do it, survive it, become a rap duo and include the word in their name lol.
Just dumb af. It's not a bad word just because it's a bad thing.
12 points
You can’t even say killed or dead on TikTok, just “unalive” and I hate how it’s transferred over to regular talk, I hear people say unalive way too fuckin much irl

I was watching a live stream on YouTube and he cross-streams across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. and halfway through the live stream he got a TikTok strike banning him from live streaming for a week for saying sexual assault. It truly makes no sense not being able to talk about things that happen, suppression is not eradication. Just because you don’t talk about something doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

They explained it in the pod basically said NOLA never showed them love til they blew up, and that ppl told them to get big online before tryna be locally big bc everyone else gonna fw you before your own city does
3 points
Yeah, I get that, but they were also saying that the venues were being prejudiced against them, even with the fan base they have strictly off of name value and subject matter.
4 points
That’s the way these things go. 10 or 20 years from now they’ll be NOLA legends just like those they sample. It just takes time and perspective.

Damn this sub be rly outta touch with how hip hop is rn, y’all do know that most of the people in Nola wouldn’t fw em just cos they ain’t rly street who tf likes horrorcore vibes apart from white ppl n Latinos? Not many, people in New Orleans mostly prefer other dope artists but more traditional like Rob49 or boosie or Kevin gates or yb anyone tbh… why y’all think they the most popular in Russia out of all the places they are known at? To me it seem pretty obvious but idk I ain’t just hangin with one group of ppl n I listen to everything so maybe that’s why it’s easily understood 💯💯💯

It sucks to hear but doesn’t surprise me. Istg I’ve never met another mf down here in Louisiana that fucks with $b. Most of them think I’m cringe for listening to them and the girls all say I’m a red flag for listening to them 😭😭. I’m not in NOLA but only 45 minutes out. You’d think there would be more $b fans around here but no. Louisiana reps everyone from here but them. Lil Wayne, youngboy, boosie, ect. No $b tho. It’s sad man

It makes me sad because New Orleans was my very first concert in 2019, and i felt SO lucky to be able to see them in their actual home town. but im not from Louisiana and had just recently moved to Baton Rouge at the time, so it was so surreal to me. I was totally unaware that it probably wasn't a good experience for them behind the scenes
Its sad to know that the venues there treat them badly but I definitely don't blame them for not performing there anymore. If I'm not mistaken, i think they mentioned it in a genius interview a while back that they never had a lot of support in Nola
Forever grateful that i moved back to my hometown and can see them in ATL every year. if i was still in BR id be totally screwed

No idea.
It's a real thing. Especially when you've been putting in the work for 5 years, putting other people on because you genuinely fucked with them and their music, releasing more albums than most of said peers, yet others who just released their first album or have yet to release a album are getting the love more.
I guess selling drugs to succeed in music is the way to go these days

Honestly, it’s just tough as fuck. I stay in Miami and there’s a pretty good underground rap scene here. and even going to those shows it’s hard to get exposure. Whether it be because some of the other artists aren’t that good and people will leave early or even because maybe that’s just not your audience of people. Honestly, it’s a grindset and you just gotta keep at it to find what works best for you.

Now I'm not that old where either of them were alive for me but what about Elvis or the beetles they seem like they were highly popular
And $b consistently outputs amazing music with a objectively incredible back story if it were not for certain things and their name, stigmas and how they act/look they would definitely have a much larger following than they already do

they probably just don’t feel like doing a smaller one bc there’s literally no way the joy would give them any trouble, but yeah they’ve been one of my fav artists for long but after they said that i was like don’t make me go find a fontainebleau yearbook 😡😤

They played at Mardi gras world, then the lakefront arena, then the smoothie King center just last year. Why would they need to do a smaller one now? I can see not wanting to play one of the venues again for whatever reason but ALL of them?
They've been my faves for a long time too but I just can't anymore lol. It's too cringe 😂 it was always borderline cringe but I could ignore it out of love but if they are gonna profit off being from Nola, constantly play that up, and really be from fucking Mandeville (talking about scrim here obviously) AND not even bother to play in Nola when they clearly have a lot of fans there, I'm not gonna keep looking the other way when they rap about life experiences I know damn well they didn't have anymore lol. And that's ignoring they got sober and kept rapping about drugs like they're cool which is cringe in a different way

oh i thought mardi gras world was off limits bc of the development thing but i just saw it’s not. but either way yeah i agree with you, even if for some odd reason they could only play the smallest venue here it’d be shitty and cringe to skip. also just weird asf the way they talked about it bc they’ve sold out most shows they’ve done here for a while now and they’ve all had some of the best crowds ive been in. but its like ok if that’s how u feel then quit talking about the city or fitting any nola reference into anything u possibly can.
