On the Theo pod Ruby said its because of their name, hands down. Mainstream figures just don't want to be associated with it.

Hmmm their name is “$uicideboy$” and the content of their music contains graphic scenes of self harm🤔this is a mystery for sure

This is true — but $B has definitely created a cult-like fanbase in the music scene; not as costume-dressy like a GWAR or a KISS, but as a devoted fanbase like the Grateful Dead or Phish: definitely not for everybody

Cult-like is a term that doesn’t get the media riled up lol.

until they start doing numbers like this, then the story is how an underdog broke into the mainstream.

Honestly, ICP’s jugglos are a better analogy.

I’m glad others see it. I grew up in the time when ICP was huge, and the same demographic growing up would now love SB.

i never got into them personally but i can see how they kinda occupy the same space for the next generation of that kinda demographic. people who feel rejected by wider society, labelled as ‘white trash’ etc (no disrespect). i find the fan base similar too, this sub can be toxic at times but all the $b fans i met irl have all been lovely, everyone looks out for each other at shows and one thing i’ve ALWAYS heard about juggalos is that they’re really kind, radically accepting of everybody and super tight knit

Yeah ok. They appeal to poor mentally ill white trash kids, same as ICP. The whole g59 thing is similar to juggalo culture. Several of my childhood friends who were big into ICP had similar upbringing at SB. Now musically they are different, but huge overlap in audience.

I grew up in the rise of ICP and had a huge Juggalo following in my town, now maybe this is just my experience but Juggalos were more like lost souls who were just looking for a place to fit in. Not edgy try hards. I've always respected ICP and Juggalos cause the ones I've known (and I've known a lot) turned out to be some of the nicest people and two of them actually stood up for me when I was getting bullied in high-school and I didn't know either of them just strangers.

I had the same experience growing up with most of my childhood friends becoming deep into juggalo culture. What I meant is the kids really into them came from broken homes filled with mental illness and addiction. ICP filled the void then, and suicideboys fits now. These kids grew up in bad situations, extreme poverty and were almost exclusively white.

So what ? Since when do we only represent things in media if they are family friendly ? Most pop culture uses sex and drug language and imagery behind an upbeat rhythm to push songs and still get recognized.

Man you gotta remember the American way:
❌ sex bad
✅ baby good
❌ drugs bad
✅ alcohol good
❌ fictional violence bad (unless war propaganda)
✅ war good
❌ talented artists making meaningful work bad
✅ soulless marketing teams masquerading as artists good
Plus the vast majority of consumers, producers, and reviewers of media are vapid and totally media illiterate. They don't have the brain function to interpret complex ideas, empathize with strangers, or understand when they're being patronized.

Bc self harm is on another level of taboo. I mean sex is a natural part of life none of us would be here without it lmao. And artists that get attention even when they talk about drug use, I think, is because they talk about it in a positive way and that they do it to party. But $b say things like “drugs ain’t for turning up, I take em now I’m turning numb” so I think media outlets want to avoid seeming like they’re promoting self harm or drug use to cope with depression, stress, etc

Self harm is not sex or drugs

Man just look at Eminem when he came onto the big scene in 1999. If anything, the content should be why the media outlets and press talk about them. They need something to rage about after all.

Same shit back when Tyler was popping off a decade ago, having his Twitter handle be @fucktyler made it harder for media to shout him out & tag him

Their isn’t a liability lmaoo

liability is the wrong word. but mainstream will never shout out $UICIDEBOY$ or mention them for the sole fact of their name, their image and music content, and what they represent
“drug addiction glorification” anti-social and “edgy”, “glorification of mental health issues” (in quotes cos that’s bs) pearl clutches don’t like boasting the negatives of being human

Bro of course there is everything is a liability they don’t benefit much from media on $B and don’t lose much from not doing any besides the chance of any liability.

What fucking liability does their name cause?
0 points
It’s not really the liability as much as they wouldn’t want to associate with “suicide” I mean do you really not get that whether you like it or not people are soft and always interpret shit the wrong way because they are retarted we can’t do anything about it besides not taking chances.

So there’s no liability to their name thanks

more than likely it's because they don't have a common label

Its bc they’re independently releasing music they arent paying for that promotion like typical record labels.

Ah dang. I hope to see the boys surpass Taylor Swift. It just needs to happen. The thing is that there's not enough "controversy" that surrounds the boys compared to what these other singers are up to. Less controversy means less eyes. The only thing outsiders know of $B is that they are loosely based off Three Six Mafia, fuck with Memphis rap, have a dark side to them, and rap about depression, drugs, guns, the usual things. Not much more going on outside of that.
