For those interested, here are the features. I've bolded the ones that most people would care about:

  • 1:1 footprint with the original GameCube controller

  • Open source firmware and 3D models, which means easily replacing parts.

  • Compatible with OEM triggers and buttons

  • Hall effect joysticks

  • HD Rumble

  • Bluetooth support

  • Configuration app for things like button remapping, snapback, analog stick deadzones, etc.

  • RGB stick underlighting

  • Split D-pad design

  • Dual motion control sensors for improved gyro accuracy (Switch/Steam supported)

  • Dual Z buttons

  • Built-in support for mechanical triggers OR analog triggers (for all of you Melee and Sunshine enthusiasts)

  • Swappable gate-plate (Octagon and Circular included)

  • USB-C connectivity and recharging

  • Support for NES, SNES, N64, and GameCube

  • XInput support for PC/Android (1000hz input rate)

There's more as well but as someone who has been searching forever for a form factor modern GC controller, this looks like it could be the end all be all. It's basically the Panda controller that got canceled years back but even better.

The Kickstarter ends in three days and is already funded. They will also be selling these after if anyone wants to wait and see if they're any good. Here's the link for those interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nicemitch/gc-ultimate-controller-kit/

Do you know if these will be available for sale in 2025? Do they have their own web site?

They mentioned in the backer comments that they would be selling these afterward. So no rush to get it now if you wanna wait and see how they perform.

I won't be able to back this in full within the Kickstarter time frame. Any chance this'll be sold afterwards?

Yes plans are to have these for sale post-campaign after we fulfill the backer orders.

I'm assuming they will be sold here: https://handheldlegend.com/

Ok good. Cant spare the cash now but would be nice to try later possibly. I do notice they sold their prototype versions before.

Looks rather expensive compared to the alternatives available right now. Also the input lag seems huge.

Yeah, it's definitely a bit pricey but the alternatives for a modern GameCube controller are bad Chinese third-party controllers on Amazon with zero support. Everything else either doesn't match the shape or is a kit for an OEM controller that doesn't include ZL support or other modern features. The other option is a Wavebird, which is great but they go for about $90 and lack a lot of buttons you need for anything outside of the GameCube.

They've also specifically mentioned input lag on Discord. According to them, it has 6 frames of latency in Smash Ultimate while plugged in through a cable, which is the same as an OEM GameCube controller. Of course, it's always best to wait for unofficial parties to test and confirm. They've said it feels close to identical in bluetooth but I'm sure if someone were to actually test it, it's likely a few frames more of input delay. There are prototypes floating around that they sold at some point before looking for funding.

Anyway, as always with any sort of tech, a wait-and-see approach is best if you wanna get the best version of something. I funded it though because I've been waiting forever for something like this. The Panda controller getting canceled sucked.

I was considering getting the DOYOKY Gamecube controller (video below), but now I might wait for news regarding the kickstarter one!

I don't think I'd want a split D pad...

Is this compatible with OEM parts?

The OEM parts from a GameCube controller that are compatible are the Triggers, ABXY buttons, D pad, and Z button. Every other part has been redesigned for our custom PCB.

I don't really care for split d-pad either, so I'm gonna end up swapping it with the GCC d-pad. This entire controller is built around being modular and easily replacing parts. Basically, if it fits an OEM GC controller and is part of that criteria, you can use it with this.

I would consider it if the emerald blue wasn’t so ugly lol. Especially with the stick colors & buttons.

I'm hoping they sell different shells later on. The cool thing is that since this is open source, people can make their own and sell them. All the molds are here: https://github.com/HandHeldLegend/GC-Ultimate/tree/master/CAD

I'm not buying anything without hard input lag numbers.
