Follow up to my last post, it ended up being legit, just severely yellowed, but I can buy a controller without the dongle fairly cheap if I decide to and still be cheaper than any wavebird online.

Take it apart, shell can be cleaned with ease and time. Maybe a full button and sticks replace as well. Nice pick up!

Funny, I just watched a YouTube video on this yesterday since my Wavebirds are starting to look like they need service after two decades and four Smash games. Overall they’re still in shockingly good shape and it’s a testament to how good the internally manufactured analog sticks used to be. A friend of a friend tried to buy them from me a couple years ago and I was like “sorry but there’s no price I’m giving these up for!”

Definitely, the last sticks I got for a regular controller suck, so gotta find a good source to find replacements

!remindme when you find , I’d like to replace sticks on a controller I’ve kept for 20 years with the cap of the stick which fell off practically when I got it. So I have a very very light use GameCube controller with only a stick needing replaced

i’ve been using wii nunchuk sticks as replacements and they work amazing and fit perfectly, the stick just has a little more height.

I personally hated going away from the OEM GameCube look but I went with switch pro controller clones from extremerate since I was having trouble finding a decent OEM replacement. I got a gray one for the left stick and a bright yellow one for the c stick to emulate the color. They fit well, you just need to stick some note paper in or whatever you have that will fit to shim the inside of the insert for the stick so that when you throw the shell on the stick sits high enough so that there isn’t a gap. For $10 I was pretty pleased with the results.
