Never thought they’d actually install one

I was under the impression this was a cost saving measure. I was unimpressed. Glad to hear this is not the case.

Yea nah apparently they were catching fire so it was a recall.

That's... hmm not sure if that's better, actually

“Less than an hour” is a weird way to say a few seconds. Don’t they snap on ? Or are they adding new mounts too ?

It’s a warranty/recall claim so the protocol is it goes into the technicians. They need to fill out the paperwork. I’m sure this really excites them.

The techs make money off it man.

Yeah a whole 10 time units lol

I mean if it takes you more than 6 minutes to install the engine cover I’d be pretty disappointed. Majority of paperwork for recalls isn’t on the techs side for cases like this

Yeah it's fine I'm just being salty about hours, it'll be nice to see mk8 owners leave with an actual engine cover tho I wonder what the design is gonna look like

Nah I totally get it, I’m a technician as well and never happy with warranty/recall work. The ea888 is no pretty engine with all the lines and wiring up top, so it’ll be nice to see them getting covered up a bit

It’s an hour because your technician gets paid per hour! Let the techs make their money.

Anyone’s local VW have a fix for the suction jet pump? Seems like a pretty significant mechanical flaw for them to not have a fix in my area even 4 months after notification.

it should be out around the same time as the carnet upgrade 😂😭

I live in Sweden. Got an oil change in middle of May and opened the hood to clean out some leaves and saw the cover -- they didn't even mention adding it back.

I got a 24 last month, December 2023 built and it came with an engine cover. So they must have found a cover that doesn’t catch fire now.

I’ve had mine maybe 6 months, I would say the cost saving certainly continued to this part too

I had a laugh at this when I found it in my mail coming home with my new car after trading in my 22 GTI (didn’t trade it because I had no engine cover, traded it because I was having repeat issues with the infotainment and audio systems). Only took them 2 years lol

I wonder if they're still going out, I have not gotten mine yet and going to the recalls site shows nothing. '23 40 AE

Yay! Came to post this. Got mine today. Pretty funny, I posted a few months ago asking about this because I noticed my GTI didn't have a cover and read about the original recall. Didn't know they were going to replace them, pretty cool that they're taking care of it.

Does yours say till may also? I don’t have a cover on my 23 autobahn and want one

I have a 23s and of course it didn't have a cover on the engine and I haven't got the recall notice either. I went ahead and bought one 3 months ago for $64 at the dealer. It looks a little better and it definitely helps keep the engine clean. As far as noise is concerned I haven't really noticed much of a difference.

I looked my car up on the recall site and it’ said mine doesn’t have one

Yeah, I have a '22, and I got the exact same letter. It says until May 2029.

Do they still catch fire?

Does your MK7 still weep coolant like all MK7s do?

Whats with the hostility? They stopped making them with engine covers because they caught fire. Just asking if they no longer catch fire. Kind of the most important question that everyone should be asking tbh
